I've been off work with depression since May. Had anxiety for years. Generally getting so much better but with massive dips. Like now. Can someone suggest what I can do. Have texted Samaritans . Feel like just going for a long walk. But it's 12.30 at night. Just want to calm down.

Oh wow do i know how that feels ...and I'm an ex mental health nurse ! The night just does seem worse for it , all i can say is it will pass ... Not the most helpful thing at the time i know but if you can hold onto that and tough it out in the knowledge it is a trough and you will come out tne other side.
An old school psychiatrist used to recommend a carby - not sugary - snack such a mashed potato - used to work sometimes help relax a bit . Sorry you're going through this , it is shit .

Ah thanks. I tend to binge eat and have eaten most of a really posh Yule log id bought for Christmas. Didn't even enjoy it and feel sick to my stomach. I might try writing stuff down as my counsellor has suggested. I'm so much better now usually and back at work mostly but the dips are awful. It takes all my strength just to keep surviving . I fear one day I will have to take myself to a and e and then they might never let me out.

I know someone who has found www.blurtitout.org/get-support/ helpful

They have also mentioned www.7cups.com as a text/web support
