Depression. Finally feeling the urge to go out

I was a constant walker. I have dogs and i would be out with them daily, often for hours.
Ive been depressed for a few weeks now and my walking gradually decreased and eventually went to nothing. The poor dogs arent even being walked, unless someone else takes them which isnt often.

The past few days i have thought about going for a walk. Never put it into action but the thought alone is progress.
Today i feel set on going out for a long walk later on.

Just posting this to try and make it more 'set' and less likely for me to back out as i really want to do this! Fingers crossed thst once i do make the first step i will continue making more

You need to make your dogs a priority for walking get out and about it is good for depression

I’m recovering from depression at the moment too and have started to leave the house again after weeks of not being able to. It’s a big step when you’ve been unwell, so I hope you were able to get out yesterday. If you didn’t, don’t beat yourself up about it and try again today.
It’s always small steps at first.

I missed doing a lot of things with the children while I was depressed and am slowly getting back into the swing of things. It’s bloody hard work though. Hope things keep getting better for you too. 😊

Good for you - it will of course do you good, but don't beat yourself up if it doesn't happen, and don't let that put you off planning it for another day.

Get your walking shoes, leads and all the gear ready to go by the front door, so that you can go out quite impulsively... sometimes the more you think about it, the more you talk yourself out of it.

And small steps - don't commit mentally to a long walk... even just going around the block is an achievement.

Check back in after you've been out and we can celebrate

please check your vitamin d levels, at this time of year they can be very low, supplement at least 1000iu a day (from pharmacy or Boots) to be on safe side if you don't want to go to gp.

I am looking on here because my vit D levels are high but I have travel anxiety Blush about forthcoming trip abroad, so noticed your post. I find it difficult to get out of the house at times too, get bogged down with things I should do before I leave etc, getting out is always always good, even if it is just round teh block.

Thank you all.
I managed to get out for that walk yesterday. It was nice, but bloody freezing haha.

I havent managed to go for a walk today but there is always tomorrow.
My vitamin d probably is really low. Its low to begin with and im meant to take it twice a day, but i always forget.

keemanaan glad to hear you are getting back into the swing of things. Hopefully i can be saying the same in a few days
