Hi my doctor wants me to go on anti depressants although I am 16 weeks pregnant.

  1. Anyone else on anti depressants when pregnant?
  2. Is it true that you will feel worse before you feel better?

Hi, not been on them while pregnant, but I know people who have. I have been on and off ADs over the years, when starting them the first time I did feel worse to start off with but the other times I weaned onto the slowly and it wasn’t anywhere near as bad, so depending on how you are now, then ask your doctor about starting on a low dose. Good luck with it all

I started taking them so long ago I can't remember what it was like at the beginning (although I have been on and off them in that time...but starting again is probably not the same as starting for the first time).

Anyway, I was on them whilst I was pregnant (at the highest dose as well). DS is almost 3 and there are - as yet - no discernible effects on him.

Never been pregnant but DP's ex was on antidepressants whilst pregnant. DSD is now a healthy happy almost 6 year old.

I've been on ADs for a while and generally yes when I first started taking them I felt worse for the first few weeks but eventually then I did feel better.

Good luck Flowers

I was on them when pregnant and my dd is a very active, happy, healthy child. No noticeable effects! I was much safer on them!

  1. yes, they literally saved my life and that of my unborn child, who is now 11 and bright and normal.
  2. No, i didn't feel worse, I just felt better

Anti depressants can make you feel worst in the short term. However you need to do what's best for you both. Just be aware of the risks both ways and see which is the one that is most relevant.

I.e there may be risks at the birth but if your so depressed that you feel suicidal, it's the one that is most damaging to you now.

Hi, I was on an antidepressant and also an antipsychotic during my daughter's pregnancy. She is now an extremely bright three year old. And no I didn't feel worse at the start, just better. Good luck.

Been on 2 different ones during 2 pregnancies and all perfect. Lexapro and lustral if it helps. Good luck op. And yes, often feel worse before better so stick with them and give them a chance. Just try to take it day by day. It's worth it.
