citalopram - only positive information please

Just started taking these, and they already seem to be working a little bit, taken first layer of anxiety away anyway and feel able to cope. Can I hear other positive stories about this ads please? Terribly gullible at the moment, so avoiding the negative stuff.

I took them for 2 years and they were fab. I was suffering depression and chronic anxiety and the difference was amazing.

I then got pregnant with Gecko and decided to come off them. she is now 10 weeks and so far so good.

hope you continue to feel better

wow, didn;t realise one could take them for so long....very pleased for you - great that you were able to have a child afterwards. enjoy the baby, i enjoyed mine so much....they are beautiful...

thanks, she is actually my third
my oldest is 7 and I had severe PND after her birth and was on Fluoxetine for two years.

then I came off them and we had another baby....I was ok for a while then wasn't so started taking citalopram instead of fluoxetine because it is deemed the safest for taking during BF.

now 2 years on and another child I think I am finally managing

they work very well, I think i took them for about 2 to 2 1/2 years, have tried lots of other ads and these were some of the best. take it steady one day at a time.

i hope i don't have to take them for a long time, as i would like another child and i am getting on....gp said 4/6 months, but i guess it depends how i get on. any more stories????

I have been taking them. I started on 20mg but they were making me feel sick so dropped to 10mg.

i am taking 10mg - not sure if gp will double it up. it is nice to feel that i can cope with life again.

hi there

i took these with my first bout of PND and was on them for 6 months then. recently had my second child and im on them again for 3 weeks now gp has said as its the second time iv had pnd i must stay on them for 2 years to get better fully. Im already feeling better though and just a bit of tummy ache as side effects

i took them after I had my son, i was on them off and on for about 2.5 years, the only problem I had with them is they made me feel so much better that i thought I could cope without them, which I wasn't ready to at the time, if only I had stayed on them I would have been off them a lot sooner.

I took these when I suffered from PND after DS2's birth, and I found them really helpful.
I was reluctant to take ADs because I was frightened of possible side effects etc, but I didn't experience any nasty side effects at all. They just helped stop that horrible sinking feeling.
After a few months I felt together enough to come off them, which I did with no problems!
They really helped me get through a very low spell in my life.

Have been taking 20mg citalopram for 7 weeks now and they've turned my life around. I was so down after the birth of my dd (now 6 months). I noticed the effects within about 3 days and my GP said it is because I started taking the ads relatively early into pnd and so the depression hadn't taken hold as much as it could have done. Wishing you all the best.

i have been on it for only a week now - not sure i feel any difference, the down times are less hellish maybe, and the good times more frequent. Can I ask why you were prescribed this antidepressant? I am only on 10g at the moment.

I was on them, 20mg dose, for a 6 month period after I became very depressed and anxious when DD3 was diagnosed with autistic spectrum disorder. They definately helped, initially by helping me to have a better sleep pattern, which in turn made me feel I could cope with everything. Some side effects were short lived (felt a bit panicky in first few weeks) and also lost a stone which since coming off tablets I have put back on . I had no side effects coming off them, and think I'm doing pretty damn well considering!

Well done! It is nice hearing positive stories, it is scary feeling unable to cope.

They are very good imho.
I hadnt realised just how bad i was until they started to work!
They took about 2-3 weeks to kick in but they do say that they can take up to 6 weeks to work.
Felt very tired on them at first but that only lasted about a week.

They work brilliant for me.

I was prescribed citalopram 8 weeks ago after my DD2 was born with cerepral palsy following a placental abruption that I failed to realise I was having (after going over it and over it I gave the midwife I spoke to on the phone too little information; she did not err on the side of caution). I couldn't sleep or eat and felt like killing myself because of the guilt. I am now eating and sleeping fine, and can cope with life, though the sadness is there underneath. No side effects except for lots of yawning! Am taking 20mg a day, I think it's fantastic. I keep telling people I can't believe these drugs are actually legal!!

Iamnotstressed, I took my first tablet this morning, so have made the biggest step as far as I'm concerned as I have avoided taking ad's for the past 5 years, since the birth of my first child.

In hindsight I had pnd with my son, but felt that I'd be a failure for admitting I couldn't cope, so just carried on. I eventually took St John's Wort which worked really well and I began to get back to my normal self just before I fell pregnant with my 2nd son who is now 18mths.

At first everything was fine and then things started to slip and I have found that I cannot control my temper any more & that I am constantly down and feeling like I want to run away from it all and my dh and my older son are suffering because of it.

I took St Johns Wort again, but it didn't help this time so I've had to admit defeat and go on AD's I cried in the drs surgery yesterday but he was very good and made me feel better about the need for taking them.

He said it will take at least 2-3 weeks before I notice any differece so hang on in there with yours. Lets keep in touch and see how well we do Beks
