...change a controlling and emotionally abusive husband? Your experiences please.

Only if they acknowledge they have a problem and want to change.

I say this as someone who has been emotionally abusive. It took me a lot of effort to change. A lot of my lashing out had to do with my upbringing, as well as an inability to cope with day to day things and taking it out on people closest to me. It was horrifying to realise how much pain I caused, and I was compelled never to repeat those same mistakes.

But without your partner genuinely understanding the impact they have on you, and truly being remorseful, there's little hope of change.
