What's the best self-help book on depression/suicide/self-esteem?

Further to my thread on befriending a 13yo with suicidal tendencies , can anyone recommend a book which might help her fight some of her self-destructive thinking?

I think a book aimed at adults would be OK as she's extremely mature and intelligent, and already reads a lot of adult fiction etc. If I were to recommend something specifically for teenagers it would have to be ultra-unpatronising.

Obviously I'm still hoping she'll get professional help, and that if not, a good book might, ideally, inspire her to go and talk to someone rather than act as a substitute.
