I take mine just before I go to bed.

authhapp · 02/10/2017 20:06

I take it at bedtime because I take another med then which knocks me out - but it's recommended you take it in the morning so it doesn't interfere with sleep :)

pickleface · 02/10/2017 20:07

I take mine at bed time too

UnicornTears · 02/10/2017 20:13

Used to take it everymorning/afternoon at 11 with a snack of some sort or just a cuppa. Lately i have been taking it just before i put my 6mo DS to bed at 630,700 ish. I have noticed i sleep better now (previously suffered with terrible insomnia), not to sound too nosey etc but what is your dosage? Mine is 30 mg but was 40 mg up until about a month ago. Maybe thats why i am sleeping better and its mot due to the time i take it? Who knows..

Blossom4538 · 02/10/2017 20:19

I am taking just before I go to sleep but last night, despite being exhausted, I hardly slept! Had this for the first three nights but it settled, just hoping insomnia isn't returning. Also, I felt calmer and moods were more stable already, but now I'm "due on" (sorry tmi!) I feel so angry and stressed again, really low. I'm on 20mg.
Instructions say take at night...
I've been soooo tired!

Yeah i dont think mornings are a good time, it makes me less likely to eat and my stomach churns and sounds gassy but it isnt gas its just a similar sound. And syeah keep your eye on your insomnia... what do you to before you go to bed? I find listening to nocturnes by candlelight helps me. And never to watch tv or have a bad conversation or think about upsetting things or my mental health in general. Yeah after a couple of months you should feel even more level and stable, just keep your eye on your dosage as mine had to be upped a couple of times before i had the full desired effect and felt fully functional if that makes any sense. Yeah citalopram does mothing to interfere with hormones etc so at that time of the month you will still feel the typical mood swings and down days and all the rest of it. Sometimes its magnified because other days you feel so much more at ease, conpres to the full blue pf dark depression days that was once consistent. And for the tiredness, nap whenever you get a chance to and feel able, no matter when it is! That should pass on its own and hopefully your nights will become more restful and your insomnia doesnt re-occur when the citalopram is properly in your system and you have levelled off. Hope your ok. Do you have ppl to talk to like friends family partner etc? Or just a healthcare professional?

Wow that was long. Citalopram has been my life since i was a mere tot at age 12. 21 now and still on it. Probs have more experience than is healthy hahaha.

I take mine in the morning because I also take ADHD meds and I have to take those in the morning. Unless critical, I avoid meds at different times as I'm liable to forget one. I don't find it makes me dozy. Mind you, before I was on ADHD meds I used to take it at night. Apart from vivid and often hilarious (never scary) dreams, it didn't affect my sleep.

Thank you for the replies!

I'm so sorry to hear you had to go on to it at an early age, but great that it has helped somewhat.

Thank you, I'll keep an eye on it. I just felt so much calmer around my challenging DD but really shouted at her this evening :-(

I have had to have the odd nap and early night which is so not like me, but hope that will pass eventually.

I think I'll continue to take at night and see how it goes. I'm under the weather too so prob not helping.

I can talk openly to my H, but that's about it. I have a few friends but not close really and I have family but they don't know about the ADs. They know it's been a tough few years.

Because it can disturb sleep and I have insomnia my psychiatrist told me to take it in the morning.
