Medication for Borderline Personality Disorder

Hi

I've just had a massive MH implosion and finally, after twenty long years of carrying this fucking thing about with me, the Doctors here think I have BPD.

Before my life hits the wall I've elected to get help. I'm aware of the counseling, the talking therapy but I want medication too.

Please can you share with me what meds have helped you? I urgently need a mood stabilizer. I'm already on citalopram but the emptiness, the panic of abandonment, paranoia, the swings has to stop fast.

So, what has helped ease your symptoms?

Thanks

I have BPD. Citalopram made me so ill that I was admitted. The only thing that has helped keep me on an even keel - St. Johns Wort. I am on it with fortnightly GP monitoring, but don't start it during a crisis. You need to be well first.

pro.psychcentral.com/medications-for-borderline-personality-disorder/003794.html

They used to give people with borderline pd depakote and olanzapine (for the impulsivity, anger etc) but that link suggests MAOIs and lamotrigine can be helpful too?

I've heard that Ritalin can stabilise mood-swings.

I’ve had lithium and depekote...just be careful because psychiatric drugs can cause huge weight gain. If one doesn’t work keep trying until you find the right one for you
