Any ADs that don't bulldoze libido?

Title says it all really. Have been off and on fluoxetine for a while and although it keeps me on a even keel, I literally have no sex drive.

Is there any alternative that works in a similar way but doesn't wipe out libido? Am really fed up that it seems to be a trade off between sanity and lust!

Watching with interest because citalopram does the same to me. On it I feel great emotionally but like a dried up old husk sexually.

Hi Psycho...
Poor DH tries his best but knows I'm not interested Sad

I have been on Mirtazapine for years, also take HRT and sex life is greatGrin

Any unpleasant side effects Dr?

I've been on citolopram and sertraline. Both killed my libido.

Watching this with interest!

Sertraline suited me quite well but killed my libido. Ditto paroxetine and fluoxetine. Sadly (oversharing alert) even on the rare occasions I had sex I found it nearly impossible to orgasm whilst I was on them!

RhythmNBooze · 04/09/2017 21:08

Same here. Fluoxetine for me too. DH says he'd rather I was mentally stable than have a sex drive. Please tell me I can have both.

packofshunts · 04/09/2017 21:08

Surely there must be at least one type out there that doesn't kill the the urge Confused

Agomelatine! I should work for the company that makes it because I rave about it all the time. It's amazing. No discernible side effects at all. Sertraline made me totally numb, including killing my sex drive entirely, but it came back with the agomelatine.

The slight hitch is that it's quite a new drug and most GPs haven't heard of it. If you have a GP who will listen it might be worth doing your own research and presenting it to them. It was prescribed to me by a psychiatrist in the first instance and then taken over by my GP. If I've ever had to see a locum for a repeat they'll tend to not have heard of it, and my new therapist (part of a specialist NHS team) hasn't heard of it either.

It's a wonder drug though. It keeps me alive and allows me to live. Sertraline and fluoxetine both did the keeping me alive but without the ability to live my life.

They're all different for each of us though. Sertraline hasn't knocked my libido at all. Everything else I was ever on killed it.

Another one on Mirtazapine here - and no drop in libido and no other side effects. Was previously on Venlafaxine that made me exhausted all the time. Had been on Citolopram in the past - which just turned me into a zombie. Had also been on Fluoxetine in the past - that did nothing at all to help my depression.

Mirtazapine is without doubt the best one I have ever been on - but I'm sure ADs are different for different people.
