My 16 year old girl is depressed. I took her to see her GP and she is waiting for counselling but I don't know what else to do. She has lots of friends and talks to me a lot about how she feels but some days she feels so overwhelmed she can't go to school. Any suggestions please? Thank you.

Do you have a youth team in your area?

Exercise, meditation and mindfulness can be useful to help with depression. Regular exercise has been shown to be as effective as antidepressants. Theres a great app called headspace that guides you with medditation and mindfullness that she might find very useful too. The basic part is free, then you pay if you want the full version.

Sorry to hear that. Is the school aware, have you asked to speak to the pastoral care people? There should be someone to talk to there while she waits for her nhs counselling.
