Hi, I stopped citalopram 20mg a few days ago. Cold turkey cos I ran out of meds. Feeling fine yesterday but this morning I feel a bit low. Any tips on how I can make myself feel better? Thanks

Hi. I tapered from 40 and went cold turkey at ten.

Your options are get a new prescription on Monday.

Or ride it out and come off them.

How long have you been ok them?
Did you feel like they were controlling the symptoms?

I was on for anxiety so I started mindfulness apps and yoga on you tube. That helped me through the worst withdrawals.

Keep posting. This will bump for better advice

My withdrawals were lightheadedness and brain zaps

Yea Bazzinga I'm getting light-headedness. I don't want to get another prescription on Monday cos I just want to ride it out. I was on citalopram for a few months, one of the problems I had on it was a bit of hypomania or highness. I did a few silly things. It did take me out of a depression though. I am worried about getting low again but my mood is fine so far so hopefully that will continue.

You should see your doctor either way. Any experiences you get back on here are purely anecdotal.

You seem pretty self aware though.
I'm now glad I came off mine. But I have techniques now for if I start to feel the anxiety creeping back in. Do you have a back up plan?

I would make an appt to see GP and talk it through with them. They might agree to just monitor you or give you a 10mg presecription to help with the withdrawal.
I tried the same as you - ran out so just thought I'd ride it out. For me, it was horrendous. By day 4 sweating, shaking, hallucinating/seeing black dots and the overwhelming sadness. I went to GP and they said you can come off 20mg but they don't recommend it, they prefer dropping to 10mg then tapering.

I don't see a GP, I see a psychiatrist and appointments with him are really hard to come by. I recently also came off mirtazapine and aripiprazole as well and am doing alright considering I've been on loads of meds for three years and now I'm on none. And I'm diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenic. But I think I have been misdiagnosed.

I'm feeling weird this morning. Headache has gone but I feel light headed. Feeling a bit anxious too. Sad

Who diagnosed you? And does the psychiatrist prescribe the meds? What happens if you spiral down.

I still think you should visit GP. I have no experience with your other meds.

Please get some real life support.

The psychiatrist diagnosed me a couple of years ago. Yes the psychiatrist prescribes the meds. I was maybe gonna phone my CPN tomorrow but I've remembered that she's on holiday for a couple of weeks. The good news is that I feel I've passed the worst of the withdrawal symptoms from citalopram, the headache has gone and the light-headedness has gone now too. So I reckon I'm gonna be fine. Thanks for your advice.
