I started sertraline 2 days ago and I am having a horrible time 🙁 I was hoping there might be others out there starting up too that would like to chat and support each other. I'm a lone parent and only have my mum.

I'm going in to work tomorrow so fingers crossed the feeling eases off abit. Had slight nausea earlier but it's not hung around for long. Utterly exhausted today though. Hopefully by next week we should be feeling less side effects! Just got fingers crossed for no more panics at work! Or if I do I have someone to at least hold my hand while I deal with it. When were people told to take these btw? I was told morning but I might ring and ask if I could take them at another time.

Sam345666 · 29/11/2017 18:53

Will I get withdrawal affects after 3 weeks ????

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 29/11/2017 19:00

Sam, I think you should contact the GP before just taking yourself off the meds. It isn't a good Idea. Ring them and ask for an urgent appointment or call back.

Sam345666 · 29/11/2017 19:21

Do you think I will get withdrawal affects after such a short time Iv got reaily bad jaw pain I can't take it anymore

BeerBaby · 29/11/2017 19:28

Don't just come off them Sam. Definitely go back to your gp they should be able to tapper you onto something else. They are in your system after 2 weeks so don't just stop them.

Sam345666 · 29/11/2017 19:40

Does any one else get jaw pain while on them I'm so worried it's makeing my anxiety worese

mrsdiddlydoo · 29/11/2017 19:45

Pleased to hear you've had a positive day vivienne. Might have to try going for a swim. Think I had got myself a bit worked up about going to town to do some errands. Turns out I felt much better once outside and even managed to walked the dog this afternoon.

sam I agree with the others. Could you maybe speak to a GP tomorrow about the pain? There might be exercises you can do to relieve some of the tension in your jaw.

wellshit I was told to take them when ever i liked but chose last thing at night to try to minimise the nausea. The side effects are passing for me now (almost 2 weeks in) and although I get the odd wave I barely feel sick now. Or thickheaded.

Sam345666 · 29/11/2017 19:47

Can tension in the jaw cause pain ? X

Marshmallow09er · 29/11/2017 21:13

Hi Sam

Jaw clenching / teeth grinding is v common at the start of taking Sertaline and it does get better - but worth still mentioning to the GP.

Here's an old MN thread where someone had similar and they do repeat back it went after a while.

Hope that helps calm you a bit.

Sertraline has done something to my jawwww.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/185185-sertraline-has-done-something-to-my-jaw

Sam345666 · 29/11/2017 22:11

Please can any one tell me if they still felt anxiety 3 weeks in ?

Mykiddies20132010 · 29/11/2017 22:31

Hi Sam I was exactly the same my jaw was so achy it was hard to eat it just seemed to eventually wear off. I'm on day 15 of 50mg apart from bouts of extreme tiredness but also feeling like my energy levels are increasing I'm doing well. Feeling much better in myself been leaving the house abit more, More patient, feel like my sense of humours coming back, starting to feel I'm getting abit of enjoyment out of life, not felt this good in well over a year or 2. I felt awful first week then the real nasty side effects just started to become less. The sleepless nights were only in the first week too now I am quite tired because the tablet but no that my energy's increasing. I hope all you ladies don't feel bad for too long. I was suppose to double my dose week one or 2 but haven't I'm going to see if my doc thinks I can stay at 50 for abit and see what happens. Just wanted to let you no I hated the thought of going on them and I was in mass Denial that it got to the point of having suicidal thoughts all the time, that I thought Iv completely lost my way and that I wasn't actually in control and I was so sad and miserable. I already feel calm, clearer, happier, content, joking about ect. It was the best decision I could have made 100% hang in there if it's the right med for you it will be worth it!! Hugs xx Thanks

Sam345666 · 30/11/2017 08:26

Please can any one tell me if it's possible to feel sick and have anxiety if I stopped my dose of my tablet after 1 day and only 3 weeks in ? Please anyone

AnnaL82 · 30/11/2017 08:45

Have you actually stopped so early or is it just an idea?

I'm 3 weeks in, feel already better but doctor told me to wait 4-6 weeks for full effects

AnnaL82 · 30/11/2017 08:46

Sickness and anxiety lasted just 1 week for me. 2nd week already good! Maybe I'm lucky and it's the right med for me ATM

Mykiddies20132010 · 30/11/2017 08:53

Hi Anna I think I'm the same as you lucky and the med really suits me glad you are feeling well.

Sam id defo cal the dr and see what he can suggest I hope you and get something sorted

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 30/11/2017 10:28

Morning of day 2. No nausea!! Slightly disturbed sleep, but could be down to DH having a stinking cold and waking me from time to time.

Sam, please please call your GP. I don't think we can advise you on the things you're asking about the medication. Flowers

Maccapacca88 · 30/11/2017 12:31

Hi Sam I had all of the symptoms you are describing. Weeks 2-3 were awful, but over weeks 4-5 I started to feel better. Almost at the end of week 7 now and I feel good! Normal even! I am looking forward to Christmas for the first time since childhood . Have a word with your gp, but don't just stop without advice. My gp actually told me that people who have bad side effects in the beginning tend to have better long term results with Sertraline in his experience.

dentalplanlisaneedsbraces · 30/11/2017 12:38

I was given setraline for anxiety years ago. I felt awful for the first week, like I could barely move. Like the world was swallowing me. My doctor told me it would get worse before it got better.
Day 7 it was like a light switched on. I felt like I'd woken from a bad dream. It was the best I'd felt in years.

BakedBeans47 · 30/11/2017 12:39

I have been on it for 3 weeks and feeling so much better already. Xxx

AureliaDeLuca · 30/11/2017 12:55

Hi...I am 6 weeks in on sertraline 100mg and the side effects have been awful. I was on 50mg for 8 weeks first and found that the side effects settled around 6 weeks in then came back when my dose went up. This is usually the case with sertraline and does make it hard as you really have to grit your teeth and try and ride them through. For me nausea, anxiety and muscle tension are the worst. Most of the time when people say these drugs don't work for them it is because they stop them too soon. It takes at least 6 to 8 weeks to feel some benefit but unfortunately the side effects come first. If only there was a fast acting, side effect free anti-depressant out there....one day there probably will be but sadly not yet!

BeerBaby · 30/11/2017 20:34

I'm on day 3 and today I've felt great! Actually happy and I can't remember when I was last happy. I slept well last night. Still feel slighty sick and dizzy. Jaw very tight and sore when I eat and I feel very stiff. Still feeling spaced out, dry mouth and sleepy today.

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 01/12/2017 10:15

Morning all. Pill 3 last night. Appalling heartburn until gone midnight, but could be that we ate dinner late. Woke up at 6 when DH went to work, back to sleep about 8.30 and not long woken up again. Feel a bit nauseous, but nothing dramatic.

Up and at the Xmas shopping today.... Wish me luck!

Hope everyone is OK today, keep going.

mrsdiddlydoo · 01/12/2017 10:46

Hood luck with the Xmas shopping vivienne!

I need more sleep but lots to do today. Two weeks in now and feeling lighter in my worries. Still anxious at times but it's not stopping me as much as it was. Really appreciate people coming back on here with success stories. Gives me hope.

ThedementedPenguin · 01/12/2017 12:09

Omg I had forgotten how terrible this bit is. Day 2 of tablets & my body is shaking and my teeth feel awful.
It is such a strange feeling which I hate. I know it will get better but it’s hard putting yourself through it when it’s rough.

How is everyone else doing today?

Marshmallow09er · 01/12/2017 12:47

I'm nearing the end of week 2 of 100mg and it is helping.

This morning I was running late, having to pick a friend's DCs up - usually that would have made me so anxious - fast beating heart, ragged breathing, getting cross with my DCs etc et . But I remained almost serene! My mind stayed so calm telling me there was nothing I could do about it.

It was amazing. I honestly can't remember the last time I ever felt like that (probably never! Running late always stresses me right out normally)
