I started sertraline 2 days ago and I am having a horrible time 🙁 I was hoping there might be others out there starting up too that would like to chat and support each other. I'm a lone parent and only have my mum.

Take it in baby steps TuffyToffee. When I first become so unwell, I used to try to do things that I used to love so much and when I felt nothing, I would panic. It was just too early in my recovery. As time went on, I began to enjoy all the things I used to. Don’t push yourself too soon.

There are many success stories with sertraline, the problem with the internet is most people use it to share the negatives and it gives an unrealistic overview.

Although I feel I’m much recovered now, that is why I stay on this thread. I think it’s important people also share the good stuff too.

I can honestly say, with my first breakdown, I thought my life was over. It was horrendous. And sertraline gave me my life back. It just takes time x

Good job for you taking your life back TuffyToffee. It's so hard taking those first steps of starting the meds. I'm on day 13 and I feel better than I did- which was that I was never going to leave the house again or be able to keep my job. But I still don't feel back to normal. I find myself feeling impatient and then the anxiety flairs up again and the thought process that the meds aren't working etc. it just takes time- for some even 8 weeks. But each day is a day closer to healing and being ourselves again. Thinking about all of you!!

Tuttytoffee · 10/10/2017 09:27

Thank you positive I'm on day 8 today and I've woken up feeling a lot better. I'm still feeling anxious but not too bad. I kind of feel excited about the fact I might actually start wanting to get out with the kids and do things without worrying and being stressed out before I've even left the house. I hope you start feeling better soon and they kick in. Smile

mummyvicki13 · 10/10/2017 13:09

Hey ive been reading your posts and they have been helpful. Im on day 2 on 50mg and feel ok so far but i have diarrhea and it kicks in about an hour after i take a tablet. Is this normal??

Tuttytoffee · 10/10/2017 13:59

Hi mummy, I've not suffered that side affect so far on day 8 on the same dosage but I've read a lot of people who have. Hopefully it'll die off for you soon

mummyvicki13 · 10/10/2017 14:50

Im hoping that is it, get a bit of a dry mouth, hot flushes and a bit of feeling sick. I hope it dies off soon hate it

Tuttytoffee · 10/10/2017 15:08

Yes they seem to be symptoms you are experiencing. I think the nausea is more anxiety with me. Stomach always feeling off and sicky when I'm anxious. Hopefully won't be long and we will see major improvements. I'm seeing a difference already. I'm not happy but I'm not constantly angry either or snapping. I found myself snapping at my OH last night and never felt the angry I normally feel or rage. I think I done it out of habit more than anything. So they must be doing something.

mummyvicki13 · 10/10/2017 15:50

Mine is anixety about anything to do with my boys and life in general but thought i was coping but the funny tummy from anixety and not eating coz of this was getting too much

Tuttytoffee · 10/10/2017 19:51

Hopefully can only get better once the meds kick in. I'm praying they work for me like they have for others and I'm sure they will for both of us.

NC4now · 10/10/2017 22:48

A cautionary tale: go easy on the booze. I overdid it at a friend's birthday party on Saturday and have only just started feeling normal again.
It was a fun night, but the dread and anxiety that followed was horrendous.
I won't be doing that again in a hurry.

Foreverhopeful22 · 12/10/2017 10:46

Alcohol question

I'm not a big drinker but it's my 40th soon .

Can I have a few glasses of wine as I'm going away for a spa weekend . So not a boozy session literally just with dinner in evening

I'm on 50mg been on for a few weeks

GinAndSonic · 12/10/2017 12:02

I've now been taking 50mg for three weeks and suddenly the watery bowel movements have returned. I also feel like I'm slumping again, I feel flat and irritatable. I'm seeing GP next Thursday. If I'm still having the stomach issues I think I will have to ask to change meds

mummyvicki13 · 12/10/2017 12:05

Im only on day 4 of 50mg and my side effevts seem to be settling down now, ive managed to eat a cereal bar to day which for me is brilliant. Can side effects settle down this quick

YogiYoni · 12/10/2017 12:10

Glad I found you. I took my first one today after a break of about a year. I'm bedridden as I feel so sick. I don't remember it being so bad last time!

mummyvicki13 · 12/10/2017 12:21

I had been ill with sickness and stomach upset for months before i started taking these tablets and today i managed a cereal bar which for me is alot, if your sickness gets to bad please speak to your doctor they might be able to give you something for sickness. Sorry i cant be more helpful, first time taking them

Tuttytoffee · 12/10/2017 12:45

My side effects eased off after 4 days. The only one that seems to be staying is increased anxiety which has been bad yesterday and so far today a bit. I'm on day 10 today. I've been sleepy also, having a nap in the day and falling straight to sleep off a night which I haven't done in months. I take mine in the morning. Hope you are all ok

mummyvicki13 · 12/10/2017 13:16

Thanks tutty thats so good to hear and im sorry the anixety is still there. Mine is too but not bad at moment. Im hoping my appetite comes back soon coz ive hardly eaten anything in a week. My poor husband is so worried but ive told him it will get better.

Hmmingbird · 12/10/2017 14:30

I’m on day 13, day 9 of 50mg and I have the most horrendous cold, just feel so run down. Can’t really blame it on side effects as I think my DC gave it to me. Luckily I’ve not had much more than mild indigestion and a bit of insomnia, so I’m luckier than most it seems. I just feel so tired, even before I came down with the cold. All I want to do is sleep, I just feel listless and like I want the world to just fuck off. Does anyone else feel like that?

Tuttytoffee · 12/10/2017 17:46

Mummy you should get your appetite back. Mine has come back but I'm a bit sad as I could of done with losing a few pounds lol. Today hasn't been too bad actually. Still got no get up and go in me coz I'm so tired but I do have a 8 week old and 20 month old so that's probably normal but I'm not as anxious as I was yesterday.

Tuttytoffee · 12/10/2017 17:48

Hi hmm, yes the cold probably not helping you but could be masking any side effects you may feel which could be a good thing as once it clears you'll not only feel better from not being full of cold but also the ads may have started to kick in. I'm always tired and the kids do sleep through but I can't shake the tiredness. I'm just trying to listen to my body and rest while I can. Won't be like this forever hopefully

YogiYoni · 12/10/2017 18:35

I'm thinking of just taking half a tablet tomorrow to see if it makes me less nauseaous. Then building up to a while one. Anyone tried that? I can't afford more time off work!

mummyvicki13 · 12/10/2017 18:45

Tutty i hope so all i want to do it eat, i have no energy to go anywhere and i hate a 3 year old and 5 month old to look after. Hope your get up and go comes back soon

Tuttytoffee · 12/10/2017 18:54

Yogi I've seen a few people cut the tablet in half and take 25mg for one week then upping it to the 50mg and they still had side effects. Maybe a bit less so but I don't know. If it were me and I was still going to have the side effects id just stick with the full dose but you could always try and see if it make a difference for you. It must be hard starting these while working. I'm lucky I'm on mat leave

Tuttytoffee · 12/10/2017 18:56

Mummy just think of it like morning sickness and try and nibble little and often if you can. Anything at all to try and keep up energy levels. You'll be stuffing your face before you know it like me lol

mummyvicki13 · 12/10/2017 19:30

Yeah gonna try tomorrow with little and often. Ive been feeling ok in mornings so might try cereal tomorrow morning. I take my tablet at half 10 then nornally get a bit of sickness in afternoon so hopeing im a bit better tomorrow fingers crossed
