Does anyone have any experiences of yourself or someone you know having these personality traits? I'm not specifically talking about ocd in a hygiene or repetition way exactly, nor alcohol or drug addiction, more like obsessive/addictive behaviours. Apologies if I've not explained that very well.

Just finished a stint of CBT for anxiety and starting another block of appointments for depression. Obsessive/addictive thoughts is something I want to maybe talk about but I've convinced myself that maybe I'm making it up or over exaggerating.

I hope I'm making sense.

Do you mean obsessive things like having to check the front door is locked three times before you go out, or intrusive thoughts/scenarios such as are found in anxiety etc etc as well as OCD?

No, like finding a new hobby/interest and being completly obsessed with it that it takes over you. Do in every spare minute and it even prevents you from doing everyday necessities. Spending hours researching it and buying things to do with it. It totally consumes all your thoughts. But then all of a sudden you see another hobby/interest so you drop the first one and obsess about the new one.

I still don't know if I'm explaining it very well Confused

My dp is exactly that. He gets obsessed with hobbies, people, lots of things and then he's done with it after a space of time because it gets too intense. Mostly it's harmless but he cannot maintain friendships as he can't handle the emotions and intensity. He does have anxiety disorder which can manifest in many ways, OCD but only a type that is 'all in the mind' obsessive thinking as opposed to obsessive actions like hand washing etc. He thinks he has bpd but not formally diagnosed. He has so many issues but functions well although he doesn't feel he does.

Yes CantThinkOfAGoodUsername that is exactly what I was getting at.

Kind of. But mine is pure'o' OCD. I have mental rituals. But yes I get obsessed with things and people. Then it stops. Then it starts again. But it's OCD. Very much OCD.
