Is it ok to take these both in the morning together or should I take thyroxine in morning and sertraline in evening? Confused

I have only recently been prescribed sertraline and was told by my gp to take it in the morning.
I've taken my levothyroxine at bedtime for years, though I know this isn't the norm.

I take mine together in the evening. The sertraline because I sleep through any side effects, the thyroxine so I only need to remember to take things once!

Hi, it might be wise to take separately. It's listed as having possible interactions in the BMA thyroid book. I think it might say I'm the thyroxine packet? I saw an endocrinologist who said I probably should.

There can be a difference in the way both are processed; it should be fine but it might be wise to get a thyroid tests after about 3 months of both. There was a small study done and sertaline was shown to have a mild effect on tsh when taking thyroxine. I took them together before I knew this and had some issues getting the thyroxine dose right later on.

Thank you Darjeeling
If I took thyroxine before breakfast and sertraline after is that enough time or should it be different times of the day?

Sadly I never worked it out properly and was taken off sertaline though I believe the real damage was upping the thyroxine too much when there was a blip and I was struggling. A lot was going on; I was later diagnosed with asthma.

I think I switched to thyroxine in the evening when I did find out. They usually say a gap of 4 hours for Calcium etc?

I expect many do take them together - it might actually be more they way your body processes it than an issue with taking at the same time. I've just looked at the leaflet for thyroxine (I think we forget to do this; it was never listed on the sertraline one and I didn't think to look at the thyroxine one at the time) -

"The following may affect the way thyroxine works - sertaline"

It might be best to talk to a pharmacist. Switching to the evening might still mean you need a slight dose adjustment later (if you feel symptoms). You might be fine.

Have you had a recent blood test? Could be worth getting a baseline?

I'd like to know how aspirin is affected by thyroxine?! (Just read rest of leaflet).

And for additional info - avoid grapefruit for both drugs, I never knew about that interaction with thyroxine.

Hi all,I have been taking sertraline for 10yrs and only just found out about complications and levothyroxine taken at the same time.I have suffered bowel incontinence for a year and recently had a colonoscopy.no one has ever linked these two meds together. If this has been the cause I am feeling severely let down.

I can share from my own experience as someone who’s been on Zoloft (sertraline) for quite a while now. It’s usually recommended to take thyroxine first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, and then wait at least 30–60 minutes before eating or taking any other meds so it can absorb properly. Because of that, some people prefer to take sertraline a bit later in the morning or even in the evening, depending on how it affects their sleep and energy. If you notice it makes you more alert, morning might be better; if it makes you a little drowsy, evening can work well.

Personally, I’ve been on Zoloft for several years and it’s been amazing for me, the effect is steady, it really helped stabilize my mood, and side effects were minimal after the first weeks. I actually order high-quality Zoloft from this pharmacy: vitacourier.net/categories/Depression/Zoloft. They always deliver fast, and I’ve been very satisfied with both the service and the results.
