Son on antidepressants

My adult son has just started antidepressants. He suffers from depression and is feeling a lot worse a few days in. I am worried about this as I know some antidepressants make people feel suicidal initially. i have had no reassurance or information myself and because my son is isolated and living at home, feel very anxious about him . What are the effects and how long are the adverse effects likely to last? They start with a C, have to check the label.

Hello first thing I recommend is googling the drugs information sheet that is enclosed in the packet.
I have only ever taken citalapram but I know the first two weeks were around 5x worse than my pre-drug symptoms! I was like this is making me feel worse!!! However it subsided and the medication worked wonders!
It was also noted in the sheet it can make you suicidal and reading online homicidal! So you must keep and eye on him regardless of the medication and support him wherever you can.

It should always get better but consult a GP if required x

Yes, that's what I am worried about. Why on earth would they put someone who is severely depressed on medication that makes people feel suicidal even if for two weeks! I am watching him carefully Glad to hear you felt better eventually. If I read the leaflet I know it will just make me sick with worry.

I know but it does make people better in the long run. I didn't make me even slightly suicidal if that helps just made me like woah couldn't concentrate or really hear people I was in a dream world. I am currently withdrawing from them now after 4 years of use and that in itself is mental! X
