Increasing dose - Citalopram

Hi all. I am currently taking 20mg Citalopram per day. It has really improved my mood and perspective but I still find my jaw and hands clenched whenever I go out in public. Also there is still a lurking sadness there and I cry quite easily which is unusual for me.

Has anyone improved further by increasing their dose by 10mg? I don't want to be on medication forever and am reluctant to store up problems with withdrawal in the future. However losing the last of the sadness and anxiety would make life so much better.

My GP says it's up to me and that we can definitely try an increase if I choose to. I thought I would ask others about their experiences first.

For info I see a therapist every week which is also really helping.

When I had severe pnd after having my daughter (14 years ago now) I took 60mg of citalopram for two years and then gradually weaned myself off of it as I felt better and haven't taken it since. I don't even think they prescribe that dose anymore but it shows that higher levels really do work for some people so if you feel you need more ask. It was literally life changing for me.
