Switching from Citalopram to Venlafaxine

Hi, Citalopram doesn't seem to be working for me so my GP has switched to Venlafaxine. As advised, I have gradually reduced the dose but was told to have a week of no pills before starting venlafaxine. Today is day 1 of no pills and I am struggling. Was anyone else who switched from citalopram to venlafaxine told to have a week of no pills altogether? Thank you.

I went from sertraline to venlafaxine. Was told to start the next day with new drug.
