Insomniac And Desperate

Hi,

I have many mental health issues, as many people do, and am suffering from insomnia. I had my first child 12 years ago and haven't slept well since. I've always had bouts of really good sleep, usually lasting a few months, and fall back into not sleeping at all.
I'm currently having a non-sleeping episode.
For the last few months I've had a lot to worry about, redundancy, surgeries, family fall outs. And for the last few weeks I've not slept well at all.
Over the past 96 hours I've managed to tally up the whole of 4 hours sleep. I'm exhausted! I have 3 children and can't function.
I'm so tired and just can't drift off! I'm finding myself getting irritated and upset really easily.
I've been on a very short dose of zopiclone to try to induce my sleep but to no avail.
I was just wondering if anyone out there has any tips or advice that could help?
Please, any advice would be so appreciated.
Thank you.

Have you tried deep sleep meditation on YouTube x

Thank you for your replies.
I've tried CBT, it wasn't helpful for me, which I found really upsetting as I had such high hopes. I've tried meditation, mindfulness, sleeping pills, all sorts. Nothing seems to work for me.
I've been taking medication for anxiety for around 6 years now and I'm just getting worse. I've been taking medication for depression for 13 years and that's getting worse too.
I just don't know what to do.

Unfortunately I'm very familiar to this situation too. One of the most frustrating things in the universe is when your brain won't just f off and let you sleep! I had terrible anxiety and insomnia on Fluoxetine, do you know what medications you are on for anxiety/depression? It can make insomnia much worse due to it impacting rem sleep. The reason I'm asking is they may be able to review your medication and switch you to a more sedating antidepressant such as Amitryptiline or Mirtazapine, which are also often used off label for insomnia, and of course licenced for depression and anxiety. Hope things go better for you hun xx
