How best to support someone who is really suffering from MH issues?

We're not especially close but I don't think they have many other people around them. Sad I want to help.

They are currently suffering from severe depression and I suspect other MH issues like OCD.

They're saying they no longer see the point in life / every day is miserable.

How can I help?

Unfortunately I live several hours' away and work long hours so it's very limited how much I can physically be there for them.

But if there's anything I can do, I'd like to try and help

The best thing you can do is to encorage them to seek help from professionals such as their GP or if it is more ungent encouage them to go to A&E.

Other than that, being available for a chat, sending the odd text message or card letting them know you care. Little things like that can make a big difference when you are feeling so low.
