Hi. Has anyone had hypnotherapy for anxiety? If so did it work or not and what were your experiences and treatment like??

I have. It worked fairly well (although I've slipped now but that's due to something else) We did some talking, she gave me lots of ways of calming myself down and did brief hypnosis session each time. In the end she taught me how to "hypnotise" myself when needed. You have to practice things- ie, she linked a certain trigger to my "safe place" but I had to practice to embed this. I still use it now.
The actual hypnosis was very gentle, not like on TV!

Thank you for replying. Good to hear it mainly worked.

My teen daughter had some sessions. They seemed to help at the time though she looks back on them and says they didn't. She was given some c.ds to use and I find them very calming and positive. It was expensive but you have nothing to lose by giving it a try.

Me again! After my last post I read the thread about the mini pill causing anxiety, I know this has nothing to do with the hypnotherapy but very interesting if you are taking the pill. It's worth a look.

I had some hypnotherapy about 8 years ago for anxiety. Only two sessions with a therapist I knew a little bit already (local, small town) and a CD to listen to at night too which I used to use frequently but only listen to occasionally these days.

It was reasonably successful - i used to be unable to leave the house some days and often had panic attacks. I am dramatically better than I was but a few traits remain.

I was given a point on my hand to press when I feel anxious and it automatically makes me take a deep breath which is helpful to just assess my circumstances when I start to feel overwhelmed. 90% of the time this works really well.

I'd recommend giving it a go.

It's actually for my 13 year old daughter so hopefully the mini pill isn't the problem 🤣

She's got one event looming that is scaring her and I'm hoping the hypnotherapy will help her overcome her fears. Fingers crossed

Good luck. I hope it works for her.

Think it is especially good for specific events and fears rather than generalised anxiety when I would recommended psychological therapy.
