This is something I am very interested in. here

I am an ESFJ character. Has anyone else ever done this test?

DH used to be INTP too but came out as ENTJ now (only slightly E and J though). Not sure if it's the effect of his having to act in a more ENTJ way at work or a reaction against having to live with such a total INTP as me (someone has to be at least vaguely organised).

suejonez · 14/03/2007 19:36

so Lemonaid - you have infected your DH with your INTP-ness...

I also did a belbin assessment which looks at group dynamics and the comment on my personality type was "you can only have one of these personalites in any company if you want to succeed"!!! Actually it said pretty much the same at M-B - I am a bossy cow who is always right.

And all these tests tell me I should never be an accountant... guess what I am? But do much accounts now more telling people what to do, which obviously suits me just fine.

vizbizz · 15/03/2007 05:47

I am ESFJ too.

I am a hospital scientist, so I have to be organised, and I am helping people (even if it seems indirectly) so that fits, but what I really love is teaching people to be good scientists. Now just have to find someone to give me that job!

Cloudhopper · 15/03/2007 09:07

suejonez - that is interesting because i am an accountant and i don't think my profile fits the job very well either!

mind you, i have ended up in just the sort of job where all my strengths are best placed too - tackling complex projects.

Just goes to show that you can't pigeonhole a job like accountancy as being a bunch of nerds.

Mind you, what would your classic accountant be? ISTJ?

YouKnowNothingOfTheCrunch · 15/03/2007 09:25

Hi ENTP. I'm ENTP too! Can we start a club?

suejonez · 15/03/2007 09:37

cloudhopper - I would guess you're right ISTJ sounds like an accoutnant to me! It's a bit like medicine - such a broad church you can't compare the personality of a neurosurgeon with a GP or a paediatrician.

Though I must admit that most accoutants are fairly stereotypical otherwise they wouldn;t be good at traditional accoutnacy jobs. WOuls also explain why I ended up in advertising most of my career - the ISTJ's couldn't cope with the creatives

roseylea · 15/03/2007 09:40

I am an ENFP and I think a lot of my failings and strengths as a person are genuinely reflected in the analysis for this personality type.

I thought that it was pretty balanced - not all praise, a fair bit of 'areas for development' too!

roseylea · 15/03/2007 10:15

Another thing to bear in mind about these tests is that they are analysed very much from a specific cultural value judgement system - what might be considered to be good personality traits in one culture (or point in history) may be considered bad in another. Or even by a different individual in the same culture.

I did the Taylor Johnson tests too which have a very strongly defined value system (it tells you whether you are good or bad, or somewhere in between, for various character desriptions) - but I while I agreed with the results themselves,I stringly disagreed wit the interpretation. (Eg it says it's a good thing to be assertive - well, yes, but only up to a point, and you don't want to cross the line between assertive and a bully, and the test didn't really allow for the healthy limitations of some of the 'good' traits).

So I guess what I'm saying is take what is useful from these persoanlity tests but ditch what isn't, and we are all so much more than four letters!

CODalmighty · 15/03/2007 10:28

"They have tremendous charisma by which many are drawn into their nurturant tutelage and/or grand schemes. Many ENFJs have tremendous power to manipulate others with their phenomenal interpersonal skills and unique salesmanship. "

StrangeTown · 15/03/2007 22:38
