I'll find you a test you can do online if you like Pruners?

I think this one is free once you register?

If not I will try to find another

Some are definitely better than others so I will try to check that one out, but it's a good place to start

FrannyandZooey · 13/03/2007 11:04

No, I think that is the best free one I would recommend

the problem is that to do a full MBTI test you usually have to pay, and the free ones "based on" MB are often rubbish

but I like the Keirsey one and the site is also very good for information on the different types

alternatively chat up someone who does training in business, they often use the MTBI and will have copies of it so you can self-administer

elliott · 13/03/2007 11:08

I am INTJ but can't work out what dh is - definitely a P though, drives me mad!

Hmmmm, it is difficult to put yourself into categories but I came out as INTJ - The Scientist. Does sound rather like me tbh. (Although I do think I am more outgoing than it thinks).

INTJ
Independent, original, analytical, and determined. Have an exceptional ability to turn theories into solid plans of action. Highly value knowledge, competence, and structure. Driven to derive meaning from their visions. Long-range thinkers. Have very high standards for their performance, and the performance of others. Natural leaders, but will follow if they trust existing leaders.

MerryMarigold · 13/03/2007 11:11

Does anyone know: can you change your personality type. I did it years ago and was an ENFP. I really don't feel like that anymore! I would have thoughr your personality is 'set' as it were.

FrannyandZooey · 13/03/2007 11:21

Ah, it just sorts you into the 4 types Pruni, not the 16 types?

Well I would be pretty sure you are an Idealist, yes

NF is going to be pretty standard for anyone who is an intuitive and empathetic type of person

you are definitely Introverted, natch

so what about the last one - perceiver or judger? I would say P

so you might be INFP like me, a Healer

FrannyandZooey · 13/03/2007 11:23

MM I have changed on the spectrums but not quite enough to change my actual type (some days, though.....I am a lot more "Judgy" than I used to be )

It is possible for your life experiences or beliefs to change you, yes - we all know people who have radically altered their lifestyles, don't we?

MerryMarigold · 13/03/2007 11:27

I did the Keirsey one and came out still as 'Idealist' but not paying to see if I am still ENFP. Maybe deep down I am still the same, or maybe I answere the questions as I'd LIKE to see myself rather than what I am.

GRUMPYGIRL · 13/03/2007 11:31

INFJ here

ScummyMummy · 13/03/2007 11:35

This one sorts into 16, Pruni. Not sure if it's a good one though as just got it through googling!

losty · 13/03/2007 15:37

glad to see this is still bumbling along!

As for chaning personality types - I dont think you can deliberately can you? We are who we are surely???

TaraPT · 13/03/2007 17:27

You can be on the edge of one type though - and life changes - like having children can tip you over into the other category if you were marginal to begin with.

I have done the very detailed tests for this 3 times in my life and have been the same every time (ESTJ) but I wasn't marginal on any of the factors.

StrangeTown · 13/03/2007 17:34

Our trainer said you can change. Life, experience, situations etc will change the way you respond to these types of tests. She advised us to try and think back to what our response would have been at age 20ish and go with that one. Dunno how valid that is. She said she had recently tested her parents and that they had found it really difficult to respond to the survey as with experience they could envisage themselves responding in either way, depending on the situation.

bossykate · 13/03/2007 17:41

ENTJ here.

mrsmalumbas · 13/03/2007 17:49

I'm an accredited MBTI administrator. Remember that the MBTI is a self reported test - it's based on answers you give which reflect how you see yourself, it's not like there is some external person magically "seeing" into your head and sorting you into a type. Yes most people find their reported type stays pretty much consistent through their lives. But it is true that different life circumstances such as the job or marriage that you are in can affect the way you respond but usually only one dimension i.e a T might veer more towards an F, it would rarely change the entire type. One thing that can happen if you re-take the test lots of times though is that your scores get more "extreme" so it can exaggerate traits that you have, this is purely due to familiarity with the test. Hope I didn't sound too much like a lecturing psychologist type person there.

wheresthevalium · 13/03/2007 18:03

I'm ENTP according to the test in the link.

Very chuffed with the further description bit where is says that this is AKA the lawyer type.

Guess what I am training to be!!!

losty · 13/03/2007 18:04

that is very helpfiul MrsM

Any thing else you can say to those of us interested in this?????

OP posts:
Cloudhopper · 13/03/2007 18:26

I am somewhere between ENFP and INFP. I think I am dead in the middle between introvert and extrovert.

losty - what d'ya wanna know??!

lemonaid · 14/03/2007 19:25

I'm INTP, and very strongly INTP at that.

The impressive thing about M-B was the negative characteristics -- I remember reading the guide they gave me and thinking "how on earth did they know I did that?".

SJ - part of the idea, though, is that you see the description of your type as a "fantastic person". You read your own type thinking "very right and proper too" and other people's with a vague note of sympathy for the inadequate specimen that they clearly are.

I think M-B is great on predicting potential flashpoints in relationships. It shed a lot of light on my family dynamics (my mother being, I think, a lone E-FJ in a family of I-TPs).
