How is everybody getting on?
I picked mine up yesterday, have to go through the whole horrible cutting down of citalopram first before I start them.Have read through the leaflet, the wording looks so much scarier than other AD's that I have taken before.Sad

bigbuttons · 24/01/2017 14:55

GasLightShining thanks, I went back to the dr's and persuaded her to give me what worked before-prozac. however, I will take only a micro dose.

namechangedmummy23 · 24/01/2017 15:33

I started them a month ago, 50mg as my mum has been really unwell and I was finding it really hard to cope with.

The first week I was shaky like I'd had too many cups of coffee, and the second week I was seriously hungry all the time!
But that was that and I feel fine now, and more able to deal with things in a practical way rather that being upset and walking around under a black cloud constantly. Stick with it and any side effects will wear off.
Good luck lovely I hope things start to get better.

My doctor said something to me when I first went to see him and it stuck with me.
"Things won't always be this way"
Smile they will get better x

nixnjj · 25/01/2017 17:23

Please give me hope these work. 1 week in and I feel sick, with a constant headache and sleeping loads. I'm also feeling irritated with my son, guess that could be considered progress as have had trouble sleeping for years and feel numb but even so feel absolutely dreadful.

ProudAS · 26/01/2017 14:41

I'm on sertraline and got on well with it (apart from dry mouth which I can live with).

GummyGoddess · 27/01/2017 23:07

I have been on sertraline for 5 days and have been much calmer since Tuesday but I feel a bit blank, is that normal? Will it go away?

My attention span has increased and I am now enjoying playing with DS instead of half playing with him and half doing something else, I just don't seem to have feelings for other things.

GasLightShining · 30/01/2017 13:33

Still do not feel any different. Had a review with the doctor but understandably she is reluctant to increase the dose until I try to sort out the cause. It is work related and being dealt with so I will wait and see

Alfiemoon1 · 30/01/2017 14:35

What dose are u on gaslighting

Littlepig8834 · 30/01/2017 18:31

I've been prescribed Sertraline (50mg) for Fibromyalgia, I'm a bit worried about taking it as the side effects concern me, especially the insomnia, my sleeping isn't great now so I don't want it to get worse.

Im glad I've seen this thread though, I was thinking I was alone in my concerns but reading this made me realise I'm not, and has given me some comfort in regards to taking them.

GasLightShining · 01/02/2017 15:32

Alfie I am on 50mg

Littlepig I struggle to stay asleep as opposed to getting to sleep but it hasn't got worse. The chemist told me to take the dose in the morning rather than in the evening

HaylJay · 02/02/2017 00:10

I was sacred to start too in case I had any side affects
Honestly It was fine for me and started to work well after a couple of weeks 😊
I'm very worried now however as it currently 6 week pregnant and don't think I can cope without the setraline I've been trying to wean off and finding it hard.

HaylJay · 02/02/2017 00:11

Ps. I used citalopram before hand a few years ago and they didn't help for me.
Setraline was definitely more successful in my case.

itsgoodtobehome · 02/02/2017 17:04

I just started on setraline yesterday. I've only taken 1 tablet so far (50mg) at 7pm last night. Today I have felt sick, tired and generally rubbish. Would it have kicked in that quickly? I've got to take my next one in a couple of hours and not really looking forward to it. I hope it is going to get better.

HaylJay · 02/02/2017 17:24

It's possible but may be that your just coming down with something? Don't worry any bad side effects usually subside within a couple of weeks

snozzlemaid · 02/02/2017 21:03

My ds felt exactly the same after taking his first few tablets. Stick with it. He's now 2 weeks in and has no side affects any longer.

SadMumma · 03/02/2017 06:44

Was just about to start a support thread and then found this. Thank you OP.
Today is Day 3 for me, but this is my second 'session' on Sertraline. I first took it 2 years ago and I remember the first two weeks were awful. My legs felt wobbly, I felt very anxious, teeth clenching and dry mouth. But then nirvana kicked in and it was honestly fantastic to feel normal again.

But now back to a difficult situation and felt I needed the support again. Doc has started me on 50mg and will review in two weeks as to whether I go up to 100mg. I needed the 100mg last time to feel completely normal. After a while the difficult situation eased and so I eased myself off them (eg took every other day, or took half a tablet).

This time round I am prepared for feeling ghastly as I know that it will wear off. I'm waking up at 3am and not going back to sleep again, so I'm feeling tired. I am finding that my anxious thoughts are receding although when I do wake up at 3 I find that my heart is pounding so guess they are still there somewhere.

Don't be frightened of the side effects, but do be prepared for them and make sure you have support around you and not too much in the diary. After 1-2 weeks they will go away, but they are bearable in the meantime.

SadMumma · 03/02/2017 06:46

Just to add that I have found my appetite has completely gone and could not tolerate food all day yesterday (day 2), then felt starving at 9pm. I can't remember if this is what happened before. Will I then eat like a horse next week? I hope not as I need to lose several stone! Can anyone enlighten please?

Kione · 03/02/2017 07:55

Hi all, hope its ok to jump on the thread. Been taking Sertralinebfir 2 days for PND and on top of the usual sleep deprivation I sleep even worse and I feelntired and spaced out. Its desperate, got up in tears today and thinking of coming off them, but the PND scares me.
Sorry to hijack but didn't want to start a similar thread.
DS is 4 weeks, breastfed every 2 hours if I'm lucky. I have 7y/o DD too.
Thanks

peanutbutterandbanana · 03/02/2017 08:20

Kione, you will feel awful for a few days, but please stick with it. Allow yourself 2 weeks and then you will feel better. So those two weeks are going to be tough, but try to take each day at a time (very difficult when you have anxiety or depression). You will feel tired and spaced out on Sertraline during the first two weeks. I cannot imagine how difficult it must be with two children, including a tiny one. Have you got a health visitor you can call for some telephone support? Or can a relative come and stay with you whilst you go through this transition?

itsgoodtobehome · 03/02/2017 08:21

Day 3 for me here too. Feeling better this morning than I did yesterday morning, but still feel a bit shaky and nauseous. I've got no appetite at all. I felt like this when I was given fluoxetine about a year ago. I only lasted 10 days on it before I gave up. I'm determined to stick with this one, as it does sound like it works once you get over the initial side effects.
I've decided to just take it easy while I see this through. Instead of rushing around this morning like I normally would after the school run, I'm going to sit down with a book and a cup of tea. Maybe even have a snooze if I need it. Just hope this phase passes quickly and I can start to see the benefits soon.

BaileysAddict · 03/02/2017 08:24

Sertraline sent me into a horrific mental black hole. I was a right mess!!! Couldn't stop crying. NEVER AGAIN!!!

Duloxetine however, is amazing!!! And, unlike other SSRIs, it has an instant effect :) Love em

SadMumma · 03/02/2017 08:44

Baileys - Glad you found something to help you. There are a very few who have really bad side affects, but Sertraline seems to help 9/10 people. I certainly could not have got through 2015 without it.

Kione · 03/02/2017 08:50

Thanks peanut it is just horrid, my DP had to take DD to school which means he was very late for work but I just have no energy and feel groggy.
I have no family around or close friends. I think that adds to everything.
itsgoodtobehome glad to hear you are feeling better. When do you take it, morning or evening?
I am thinking of not taking one tonight and then take it in the morning in the hope that that won't affect my sleep so much.
Baileys that is not good Sad

SadMumma · 03/02/2017 08:55

My doc told me to take mine in the morning.
Last night I slept 10-3 then again 4-5, so got around 6 hours sleep. Over the weekend I will try and get some naps in.
The tiredness must be awful for you Kione if you have a small baby as well.
Good that DP is doing his bit Smile

Kione · 03/02/2017 09:08

It is SadMumma its the las thing I needed. I get about 4 hours a day as it is and the last two nights its not even quality sleep, baby is very noisy so keeps me awake when not feeding now.
