Taken my first dose of 50 mg today and feel quite sick. Slightly worried because my appetite has been terrible since my baby arrived.

Margaret1982uk · 18/01/2017 19:04

Started today- only took quarter. Will move up to 50 next week. Fingers and toes crossed x

Both of you stay strong. It can & possibly will be very difficult for the first week or two.Expect the possible side effects these are normal whilst your body adjusts, the most common is crippling fatigue it happens regardless of which AD's that you are prescribed.
Anything odd please get in touch with your GP ASAP & remember that not all AD's might suit you,it may be a case of trying others before a suitable match.

DeleteOrDecay · 19/01/2017 01:31

How are you getting on delete or decay?

Hi op m, I am now almost 2 weeks in and so far it's been okay. I take mine at around 4pm which seems to work okay for me. I didn't want to take them first thing just in case the side effects rendered me incapable of caring for my 2 dc effectively through the day to begin with, but although I have had a few side effects I've still been able to function thankfully.

I've had a bit of restlessness, feeling slightly spaced, anxiety and trouble sleeping, also dry mouth and a decrease in appetite (Not necessarily a bad thing for me). But i have also felt more stable, less snappy and more motivated over the past week or so, but not necessarily 'happy' If that makes sense. Not sure if that's down to the meds or just life in general being a bit easier on me lately as I know it's still early days and they can take up to a month to kick in fully. I have an appointment with my GP on Friday to see how I'm getting on, bit nervous but the GP I saw was nice so...

I still have moments where my mood is low and my anxiety creeps up on me but I'm feeling pretty optimistic about continuing sertraline so far.

Alfiemoon1 · 19/01/2017 09:41

Feeling a bit crappy today tired and headachey but took half anyway as can't keep putting it off. Really shouldn't have read the possible side effects first though lol. Hope the only one I get is boob enlargement lol

fallenempires · 19/01/2017 10:08

Hahaha! Well done you, fingers crossed that they start to kick in soon.Didn't realise that you had another thread. No wonder you're at your wits end.Sad

Alfiemoon1 · 19/01/2017 10:20

Yes but me going round in circles bringing it all up every few weeks isn't helping us move on.

fallenempires · 19/01/2017 10:28

Well hopefully the tabs will help to clear your mind. It's difficult to make any sense of things when dealing with brain fog.You will still feel the anger inside but it will be controllable if that makes any sense.

fallenempires · 19/01/2017 10:30

Margaret & Mermaid
How are you both feeling after your first day?

Cherrytree83 · 19/01/2017 12:30

Sorry to hijack the post but has anyone had a positive experience coming off sertraline? Gone down to 50mg from being on 100mg for 6 months but felt low, anxious and snappy immediately. Does this pass?

Margaret1982uk · 19/01/2017 12:51

Second tablet down the hatch- woke up feeling a bit rubbish but took the dog for a long walk and feel much better. Just wish I could fast forward 2 weeks when they kick in. I think it's more the wishing to first 2 weeks over that's making me anxious if you know what I mean! Also didn't mention but have been self medicating with alcohol for the past 3 months so i am also coming to terms with not being able to have my nightly wine to take the edge off. I think regardless I will be feeling better soon as I have quit drinking as it was really making me low in the mornings after a few the night before as it is a depressant.
Trying my hardest to be brave and to deal with this without alcohol to take the edge off x

Know that one!I've been drinking way too much lately too.I am seeking to cut down once the things going on in my life(which I have no control over)are resolved. At least you've started the tabs so fingers crossed that they will be helpful for you.
Cherry you have to take it very much at your own pace, don't be rushed into reducing your dose too quickly particularly if you are still having difficulties with whatever caused the illness in the first place.Flowers

Cherrytree83 · 19/01/2017 13:50

Thanks fallenempires

Was having ideas about trying for a second baby but think it's too soon (DS is 18 months old). OH wants to have another but think I need to get right first!

Alfiemoon1 · 19/01/2017 15:28

Yep another one here that drinks to much as well need to cut down as I don't think it's helping my mood

Alfiemoon1 · 19/01/2017 18:05

So far so good not felt sick or anything. going to try to lay off the wine tonight as well which will be a challenge as major issues with ds at school today but I think it's contributing to my mood swings. hope every one else is ok

nixnjj · 20/01/2017 06:54

I had my first one at 9.30 last night, managed to sleep at midnight, woke up at 2.45 and have spent all night feeling sick. Have had them before and know after a couple of weeks I y head started to feel clearer but had forgotten just how rough they made me feel.

lucy101101 · 20/01/2017 07:13

I have had great experiences on Sertraline (have taken it for about 4 courses over the past 9 years and may well stay on it now). In my experience alcohol is fine too and for me doesn't interact.

However, I take mine in the evening not in the morning as apparently the effect peaks at around 7-10 hours which is when I am asleep as I noticed I was very slightly (so slight!) jittery if I took them in the morning.

Also, I cannot break the tablets up as I found they burnt my throat and chest so if you do this make sure you drink plenty of water with them. When I want to drop to 25mg my GP wants me to take one every other day rather than halve the tablets.

I have also had no problems coming off them either (and in fact have just stopped dead each time with no withdrawal symptoms).

Dinnafash · 21/01/2017 11:47

Ds19 started taking Sertraline on Tuesday. He's been taking them in the morning but we're beginning to think it might be better to take them in the evening as they're still making him a bit nauseous a little after taking them.
Can he just take tomorrow's in the evening or should he take it gradually a little later each day over the next few days.

OverlyYappy · 21/01/2017 19:33

They can keep you awake if taken in the evening

bigbuttons · 22/01/2017 08:27

I have been taking 25 mg for nearly 2 weeks. I felt better for about 4 days but since n it has been horrendous. I am really angry all the time, I can barely eat, have lots loads of weight, which is not a good thing for me, I feel sick to my stomach and have the runs. I am completely brain dead, can hardly string a sentence together and just want to sleep all the time.
I am very glad I am going back to the dr on Tuesday.

GasLightShining · 22/01/2017 23:02

Dinna The chemist told me to take them in the morning

buttons Sounds awful. Sounds like you might need to change to something else.

I am about 2 1/2 weeks in and feel no different.

Amandahugandkisses · 22/01/2017 23:08

Please don't worry too much. You will be fine honestly. Not everyone gets side effects and they can honestly be a godsend. They don't prescribe them lightly. You've been prescribed for a good reason.

MermaidMartian · 23/01/2017 22:05

I'm nearly at the end of my first week, and I think I'm starting to feel better. I deffo feel less tearful, maybe more anxious bur I'm dealing ok. Bit worried about going up to 75mg next week as it will probably make the nausea come back. Does anyone have a good method of cutting pills in half?

ispymincepie · 23/01/2017 22:24

The pharmacy should give you a pill cutter Mermaid
I was prescribed Sertraline in June but sat on it until October when I realised that something had to change. It's been great for my mood and my only side effects were dry mouth, jaw clenching and hot flushes for a couple of weeks. Definitely worth it imo.
