Anyone done group CBT?

What was it like? I've been offered a choice of that or individual counselling and I don't know what to pick. GP said that group cbt would be a good opportunity to meet people in the same boat but I'm not sure about discussing my problems in front of a load of strangers.

It depends what it is for. I went to group CBT for issues arising from child abuse; discussing private issues with people I had never met before and would not see again was invasive and demeaning. It increased my mental health problems and I had to go for individual counselling (and pay for it) to get over the experience.

I did individual CBT as I didn't feel I could face strangers. CBT isn't about revealing your deepest darkest secrets though. It's about changing how you think and act now.

Thankyou. It's about birth trauma and stress of having a child who is in and out of hospital.

Sorry you had a bad experience of it clonakilty.

Still undecided about it. The lady who did my assessment on the phone said that she recommends the group cbt and someone will be in touch to talk about it further. Trying to make a list of the things I'm not sure about so I can ask questions.
