Tactics for dealing with anxiety - need some help

I have GAD and am finding it hard at the moment. Simple things are giving me sleepless nights and high stress levels and it's making me feel physically ill with a cold etc.

Example - my boiler is broken and I have to stay to wait for the plumber today, this has lead to castrophesizing (sp!) that my job will get angry with me and fire me even though it's beyond my control, I've been dreaming about this all night.

I'm just hoping someone can give some practical tips on how to manage these thoughts. TIA.

Hello, I always try and think when these thoughts come in that they are nothing to do with me, that they are just part of my anxiety/OCD. To be able to separate them from me helps a bit. Hope you are feeling better. Fuck boilers!!! I cried over my last boiler more than I have over any man!!

Thank you, that really helps as an approach. I guess I was trying to do that, but hadn't thought of it so literally, which makes complete sense.
