I am sorry I have had to change my name for this as I don't wish to reveal my identity.

My mum who suffers from severe parkinson's (she is 68) had a cardiac arrest 2 nights ago.

She is now under heavy sedation and being kept alive with oxygen and a pace maker.

They will be trying to wake her up some time today or tomorrow.

I am completley distraught, don't know what to do or what to think. I just cry, cry and cry and feel helpless and even more distraught to have to wait and find out whether she has been brain damaged.

The heart attack happened while she was in hospital, so I am also wondering why she wasn't monitored properly and the attack prevented ?

Please talk to me about any one you have known who had a serious attack and what condition they were in after the attack.

I know she is a very sick woman and not getting my hopes up that she will survive this, but please tell me about people you have known who have survived.

So so sorry for what you are going through at the moment.
I don't have any experience but I didn't not want to post.

So sorry cryingandcrying.

No advice but just wanted to say that I am not sure heart attacks CAN be prevented. Esp if they were treating her for something else.

Hope you get good news.

So sorry ,how frightening and sad for you.Was she without 02 for a while,is that why you're worried about brain damage?

My fil had a cardiac arrest years ago.He went on to have a bypass and is fine now and has been for years.

Take care of yourself and make sure you voice all your worries to the nurses and doctors caring for your mum.

I feel for you so much - my father went thru' many years of poor health before he died.

What is amazing is how much the medics can do.

Keep talking to them, and don't let them fob you off.

Thanks everyone so far. I am hoping to speak to a doctor this morning and hope that they will be able to wake her up today. I will post again later.

I have no one to talk to who understands, so thanks everyone.
