Depression and the Mireana Coil

I had the Mirena Coil fitted two years ago and ever since experienced the worst depression and PMS imaginable.
I had the coil removed two months ago and started taking the mini pill instead.
My life is transformed. My husband says that it's like living with a different person and I feel like a different person too. I'm so much happier now.

Hey loreleimeerfrau, the same happened to me. I had to go and see doc. as I had what I can only describe as inappropriate emotions. Crying over not v. sad things and hard as nails over eg:thousands dead etc. They told me that was rubbish as the hormone is so local it cant push you over the hormonal edge, but they have found now that it can! Well done.

I've had mine for about 9 months, I think. At first I thought it was great, but recently I've been wondering if it's making me feel tetchy all the time. I feel permanently pre-menstrual. My periods virtually stopped for the first 3 months or so, but now they've come back - so what's the point? That was the main selling point for me.
Also, and worst of all. I've put on 1/2 a stone and feel like a flat bloater after being a skinny minny all my life.
I'm plucking up courage to get it removed. I'm dreading asking my gp as she gave me a lecture about how expensive they are blah blah..

Just had a Mirena fitted yesterday - was going to carry on with normal copper coil but the doctor persuaded me to give it a go - was worried about effect on moods and already feel pre-menstrual although it's the beginning of my cycle and I usually feel quite normal at this point! Started feeling like this within an hour of having it fitted (bloody painful as well!) Is this normal or is it likely to wear off? If I still feel like this in 6 weeks when they check it, I'm going to have it removed!!

furcoatandnoknickers - that is what my doc said to me. I'm on ADs and have had MC for just over a year. Who are the "they" that have found out otherwise?

I wonder if the localised affects of the progesterone are having feedback effects on the other hormones, which will then act throughout and affect moods. Just a thought, but my endocrinology is as rusty as an old nail
