Bipolar and DVLA?

After many years of being unwell on and off I've been diagnosed with bipolar affective disorder. I've filled in forms to declare my illness to DVLA. I'm currently well. How complicated is this likely to be?

Not complicated in my experience. You declare it and get a letter asking you to fill in some details about your condition and medication. When they receive that, you get a second letter saying that you can carry on driving while they contact your psych. You then get a third letter to say what the outcome is.

For the first couple of years after diagnosis I was given a one year license that I had to renew - simple process again. Now I'm on a 3 year license, which is less of a pain.

Thanks Keema.

Bear in mind that if the DVLA decide you can't continue driving, it allows you to apply for a free disabled bus pass/travelcard. I don't even have a full driving licence (just provisional) and I update the DVLA with my medical details in order to qualify.
