have bumped another recent FD thread on this topic which may help.

I was on fluoxetine when I fell pregnant ans it is thought to be ok but they think that citalopram is safer for pg and brestfeeding so I was changed to that. Please see your gp before starting to take them again incase he wants you to change them

hope you feel better soon
congrats on your pg

I ws on fluoxetine when I became pregnant but Istopped taking it (aganist medical advice as they were worried depression would reoccur.) I read loads of stuff and couldn't find anything saying there would be negative effects, but I just didn't want to take it (this was five years ago - things may have changed).

I would talk honestly and openly with your gp and think carefully about what you want to do.

If it was me I would hold off as long as possible - but we are all different creatures- would be dull if we weren't!

Good luck honey.

thanks for answering me. TinsellyRhino, is citalopram much the same- did it work for you?

I started Prozac when I was PG, this was end 2003 so advice/research may have changed since then.

DimpledThighs- I did feel that way too, but I think I have held off for as long as I ca.

I found flouxetine worked very well for me and haven't noticed any difference with citalopram. They are from the same 'family' of antidepressants, they work the same way and I have had no problem and feel they have been working just the same as the fluoxetine

TinsellyRhino · 04/01/2007 21:20

it was 2006 when I was told this info and changed over to citalopram. so I'm assuming I was being given the latest info.

I started taking sertraline when I was 12 weeks pregnant, and also took it whilst breastfeeding DD. Both of us are fine.

2pinkplusbump · 04/01/2007 21:25

thanks for that Tinselly. Idris- i'm glad you are all fine.
