Fluoxetine

Just looking for experiences really, have been on sertraline which definitely helped but gave me a terrible tummy (sorry tmi!) so Dr has told me try fluoxetine. I'm on the lowest dose. I'm nervous of side effects & coming off it as I have experienced side effects from coming off sertraline despite being on the lowest dose.

No physical side effects for me. However, was constantly in and out of daydreams and really struggled to tell the difference between these daydreams and reality.

Dp is (back) on these. He found it took a good few weeka for them to start working, and usually cause him to dip quite badly when he first starts them -more likely to have a breakdown/suicidal thoughts. This is all when he starts them having taken nothing previously, so you may have less of a negative experience starting as you already take AD iyswim. When they are in his system they are fabulous and make the world of difference. Worse effect when he takes them is heartburn.

He has came off of them himself before as he "felt better" - ... But no side effects due to this, with the exception of him dipping because he wasnt ready to come off of them in the first place and done so without gp help.... He seen his error and went back on them.

Oh wow ok thank you...can you drink on them? I'm reading conflicting advice.

I was on fluoxetine for a month before i ended up having a major allergic reaction which sent me to a&e. I had a friends birthday and drank whilst taking them (bad idea i know) ended up losing all memory of the night and crying about depression to my family. I have never experienced anything like it

At the start when your adjusting to them I would say no, dont drink. My DP has found after a few months on them when his body ia used to them and he has been feeling very good within himself, then he can drink normally again. (Although its rare he does drink)

To echo pixie, if he drinks when he is still adjusting then he too is very emotional.

They made me much better until i came out in a rash and had to go a&e. If you feel you need to try new versions then always give it 3months minimum before fully deciding (my doctor also recommended counselling)

When I was taking fluoxetine I felt nothing at all.......I want depressed or anxious but I didn't feel anything. I went to my mother in law's funeral and didn't shed a single tear.

I also felt tired the whole time, I used to avoid going upstairs because as I soon as I saw my bed I wanted to get in and just sleep for hours.

Having said that it did get over a bad time, I was pleased that they worked but I was pleased when I reduced my dose and then came off them altogether a year later.

I love fluoxetine, it works best for me out of all of the anti depressants. It does make you feel worse at first, but after that it's the only drug I've taken that picks me up out of depression with any success.

Ah try hard I'm in the same position as you, having had a bad reaction to sertraline. I was on fluoxitine years ago and don't remember any bad side effects after the initial adjustment period. Fingers crossed anyway.
