My 9 year old son had turned into a monster these last 3-4 months. He talks to me aggressively, acts like he is nearly constantly frustrated and irritated, he back answers and constantly moans about everything, nothing I do is good enough, everything I try is a complete waste of time. I can understand some of his behaviour because I am a single, out of work parent with practically no friends and no family. We never go anywhere as we haven't got any money, but when we do manage to get out he moans and moans and moans to the point, I just want to scream and it's so embarrassing. We are quite isolated and there's no children around here for him to play with so he doesn't get the chance to play out, all he does is sits at a computer every night after school, he barely talks to me and when I try to entice him off the computer to play or do something else, he just shows no interest. I do have mental health problems and I think he has as well, I also had postnatal depression (they say can last up to 7 years) it certainly did with me. Maybe we should of had a stronger bond with each other by now, I just don't know! I know I need a break from him, i need to know where this aggression is coming from, i can't cope anymore! We both need help and ive told my GP but got offered nothing, no helpful information or referrals, just nothing! What an earth can i do?

Some areas have Family Centres - try googling your area.

Nine is a difficult time for most boys, so please don't think it is just you or your circumstances. They can be lovely, but they can also be a pain.

He needs to be out and about with some mates. I know this sounds a bit old-fashioned, but is the a Beavers or Cubs near you? My GS is loving it; and loving the independence from Mum.

How does he get on at school?
