I am feeling rather chunky lately. Only since I started AD's.

Me too. I specifically asked to go on one that wouldn't make me gain weight as I've had weight issues in the past (v thin then v big then v thin etc). Hmph. Mind you, I keep telling myself it's worth it to be feeling normal emotionally again. What one are you on?

Hi, I may have some hope for you!!
I have been taken ADs for 2 years and during that time managed to gain 1.5 stones. I'm not so sure whether they were directly responsible or whether it was just that I didn't have the motivation to stop the weight gain whereas I always have done in the past.
Anyway, I am now down to 1 every other day and now have my motivation back. I have lost about 8 pounds to date and still going!!
Good luck to you both!

i gained 2 1/2 stone when on seroxat - lost it all when i stopped, without any sort of diet

I'm on one which apparently is bad for gaining weight, but I am doing WW and managing to lose it well. So, I think it is probably more likely that depressed people eat more, even without realising. If you are concerned, keep a diary of all you eat and work out the calories for a few days. You need no more than 2000 calories a day unless you are particularly active. If you are then still concerned, have a word with your gp. You can change ADs if you want to.

I put on over a stone on ad's and I'm finding it very hard to lose and I tried ww and walking and giving up bad stuff but to no avail so it's turning out the depression is gone but now I'm heavier and thats beginning to get me down and yes I'll be eating more....... must do a diary!!!

Sertraline made me put on 2 stone. However am currently on amitriptiline, which is most evil drug of all regarding weight gain, but have lost 1 stone on it.

Think I am much more aware of ads and weight gain this time, so have been able to control it better. Believe me if any one can pack on weight I can

merrylissiemas · 13/12/2006 15:42

i've been on sertraline for 18 months and i haven't put on any weight at all, i think it's probably more a symptom of your depression than anything else
