Spoke to them for the first time the other day - never thought they could help before as I thought they made you talk and start the conversation but that was not the case. They asked leading / open questions and altho they left pauses it was never too long before they said something else.
What really amazed me was the willingness to stay and talk to someone who was suicidal potentially until the end with no comments except care and concern, no calling the police or trying to dissuade you and then closing the call because you would not accept help. Really don't know how they can do this so well done to all the volunteers!

That's a lovely post. I guess sometimes we just need to be heard?

I'm currently looking in to the process of volunteering as a listener but I think you have to make quite a time commitment, including night shifts and I'm not sure how it would all fit around my work.
