Weight gain coming off citalopram???

Hi everyone,

I've been on citalopram 20mg for just over a year for depression after a traumatic incident. I've been feeling much better for a good few months, so about a month and a half ago I started weaning myself off. I gradually went from 20mg everyday, to 20mg 6 times a week and 10mg once a week, twice a week etc etc until I was on 10mg everyday. I'm now taking 5mg everyday, and am planning on doing that for a couple of weeks before every other day for a couple of weeks, and then stopping altogether.

The thing is, I've noticed that since I started reducing my dose, I've suddenly gained half a stone for no reason! My clothes are all a bit tight and it's making me feel awful about myself - I work out 4 times a week and eat really well, so nothing has changed dramatically in that sense. When I was on 20mg I didn't notice any weight gain (which a lot of people do I think?), if anything it made me starving hungry all the time but I lost a little bit of weight! I'm really hoping that the weight I've gained recently will come off again - does anyone have any experiences like this?? I feel like I've swelled up like a balloon, just want to know the weight will go again!

Please let me know your experiences!!

S
