Hi. I am taking escitalopram 10mg and have to do a 20 minute presentation on wednesday (which i am not looking forward to). I was wondering if it is safe to take diazepam 2mg with the AD's?
Another thing is, the diazepams were prescribed in march so would they be out of date? there is no use by date on the box as the GP only prescribed 10 tablets and the pharmacist put them in a small box.
just wondering what the shelf life is on these tablets. i'm feeling nervous as i'm not good at presentations.
thanks

The Diazepam would probably be OK from a use-by point of view, but I honestly wouldn't take the two together without checking with the GP first. Can you ring him and ask for advice?

pelvicfloorSNOWmore · 20/11/2006 21:06

I was taking ad's and Diazepam earlier this year so must be safe but i wouldn't advise it really without speaking to your gp,especially if they may be out of date ,not worth it imo.
Could you try to see your gp?
Could you try calms or rescue remedy or something?

alexa1 · 20/11/2006 21:13

would it be ok to take kalms. i find rescue remedy rubbish?

Hiya,
I took diazepam and ADs at the same time, the diazepam was 10mg then. It is safe, but I would get some "new" ones and double check with your GP anyway - better safe than sorry. It might depend on the type of ADs. Good luck for Wednesday xxxxx

I would double check with Kalms aswell... our GP does a ring service, where he'll call you back between or after appointments for quick questions xxx

The problem is that if you take the valium it will take the edge off your momentum, and your presentation will likely be crap

You will be much better going with your adrenaline

If it is THAT much of a problem, you need to get out of it

alexa1 · 20/11/2006 21:22

thanks. the diazepam is only 2mg. not likely to make me feel crap. it will just take the edge off my nerves. it worked for my last presentation, which was my fist ever.
i think i will phone the pharmacist in the morning and ask them. i bet they will just tell me to make an appt with my GP. not likely to get an appt by wednesday unless i'm dying.

If you weren't on the ADs before, then this isn't the time to try and mix them

It is likely to be harmless but it can REALLY affect your motor control with certain anti-depressants

I went to a party and spent the entire evening unable to walk and giggling helplessly and knocking everyone's peanuts on the floor when I tried this once...

I have been lurking and feeling worried about you.
But then only you know how Diazepam 2mg makes you feel.
Will be thinking of you as i have to do presentation on wednesday too

alexa1 · 20/11/2006 21:31

notasheep - why are u worried about me??

Sorry, thinking of me doing a presentation after a Diazepam 2mg, i would be asleep in the corner also think its quite a potent thing to take.
I am a Pharmacists monkey(Dispenser)
I wish you well

alexa1 · 20/11/2006 21:41

Good luck for your presentation.

This website seems to advise not using these two together when mental alertness is required! drug digest

alexa1 · 20/11/2006 21:47

thanks jangly. maybe i won't take them then. just have to be a bag of nerves for my presentation.
thanks anyway.

hi alexa
before i started citalopram 30 days ago i was on propranalol for anxiety (its a beta blocker). They calmed down my physical symptoms including shaking and the fast heart beat but not the racing thoughts and jumbled head which is why i moved onto ADs. When I went for my GP review the other day he said i could take a propranalol along with the citralopram if i was in a situation where I didn't want to appear too nervous with shakes etc. I haven't wanted to take them together really, but if the GP has said its ok then it can't be too bad. Could be better than diazepam. Just a thought.

Good luck with it x

alexa: Hope your presentation went ok!

alexa1 · 23/11/2006 19:20

Hi morningpaper. It went ok. I did feel shaky to begin with but once I got into it I was fine. I had put a lot of preparation and effort into it so had to do it and do it properly.
I did have one to many wines last night to celebrate the fact I done it, which I shouldn't of with taking AD's. But never mind. I felt fine this morning.
Thanks for asking.

Well done!

Nothing wrong with the wines, I shouldn't imagine, unless you were driving a school bus or something at the same time...

Well done you

Quootiepie · 23/11/2006 19:36

oh, glad it went ok
