KALMS - Anyone tried them?

Sparkler1 · 09/11/2006 18:04

Been off ADs for a year now and have done really well but for the last few weeks gone steadily down hill again.
I thought before I head back to the docs to ask for tabs again I would try KALMS.
Anyone tried them? What did you think?
TIA

they are good so long as you dont take them all the time cos after a while i think you get used to them and they are less effective....

iota · 09/11/2006 18:29

an ex-bf of mine tried them once - I don't really know if they helped him though

surely worth a go - what have you got to lose?

iota · 09/11/2006 18:30

or what about st johns wort - that seems a popular choice with some people

Pinkchampagne · 09/11/2006 18:32

I have started taking them recently. Not sure if they are doing much or not atm.

Pinkchampagne · 09/11/2006 18:33

Sorry to hear you are feeling low again, Sparkler. (I am BT with a new name btw!)

laneydaye · 09/11/2006 18:37

i know theres another good one as well its passiflora but cant think of the name wil look for a bottle but they are natrual and i find them a tad better than calms..

Pinkchampagne · 09/11/2006 18:39

I was suffering quite a few panic attacks & I must say, they seem to have pretty much stopped since taking the Kalms. Not sure if it is just a coincidence though.

goblinqueen · 09/11/2006 19:28

I use SAMe which I get online. It's great, a bit pricey (£15 for a months supply from ebay + p&p), but no side effects and no withdrawal. I've also recommended it to a couple of people who've also found it great. It was recommended to me and a last ditch attempt before I went to the docs about ADs.

It has to be foil wrapped and enteric coated and for depression it's best to start with 400mg/day I take mine an hour before a meal, with B complex vits.

Thanks everyone. Well I have bought them already and they weren't particularly expensive. Might as well give them a try.
Hi Pinkchampagne - I love your new name by the way. Why the change?

OP posts:
Pinkchampagne · 09/11/2006 23:05

Had to change name due to my mother finding me on here & doing a bit of spying.

Anyway, hope you are ok, sparkler. It can't hurt to give them a go & I was desperate not to go straight back onto ads.
I have been to the doctors today & been given a prescription, but I am going to try & hold off taking them for now.

LadyOfTheFlowersIs1Baby1Bump · 09/11/2006 23:08

i use them!
i get panic/anxiety attacks. can feel my heart beating in my throat iykwim? but when im on these i dont get any and am generally very laid back about everything.
much better for the kiddies!

Sparkler1 · 09/11/2006 23:08

sorry to hear you aren't so good either. It's hard isn't it. I find it so frustrating as well that I feel this way. I DON'T want to feel like this but feel like it's totally out of my control iykwim.
I thought of going to doctors again but the thought of paying out for all those tablets again is keeping me away - - so maybe I'm not as bad as I thought eh? lol!

Sparkler1 · 09/11/2006 23:09

okay just off to pop a couple of these lovely pills and wait for the magic to happen.

OP posts:
Pinkchampagne · 09/11/2006 23:13

It's horrible isn't it?
Give the Kalms a go. They cost me £4.99 for a bottle with loads in & my panic attacks have definitely calmed right down, so I guess they must be doing something!
I have lots of stress at home atm, & I think it is more than the Kalms can deal with!
Hope you are feeling better soon.x

Sparkler1 · 09/11/2006 23:16

I have 100 tabs and they only cost £2.94.

Think I was ripped off there then, Sparkler! I also have 100 tablets & they cost me £4.99!!

i used them a 4yrs ago after i was carjacked they help me. I only used them for a couple of months.

You need to check what medication on are on when using St John Wort as it can interfer with how some medication works e.g. the pill

ute · 10/11/2006 08:37

Hello All,

Sorry for a silly question, I'm new on here, but what are KALMS? It's not me suffering from Deppression but my better half, and he's not very keen on ADs, does not like the side effects. So anything that can help him, I would be very grateful.

anorak · 10/11/2006 08:47

ute, Kalms are tablets you can buy over the counter, made of natural herbs and used to (obv) keep you calm.

I've been taking them 3 times a day (on the doctor's advice) since (long story) I lost both my teenage daughters earlier this year to their pimp father and his prostitute wife. I also take St John's Wort once a day. The combo works so well that I know immediately if I've forgotten to take them: in no time at all I become confused, overwhelmed, and start to cry . If I take them everything is quite manageable most of the time.

Kalms do work but should only be taken for 6 weeks. They make me feel calm but a bit low energy. They contain Valerian, Hops and Gentian. ADs made me so ill. It’s good to have a herbal remedy. Rescue Remedy is also good. There are other herbs that help stress: ashwaghanda, rhodiola and schisandra are all adaptogens.

4fourchildren · 26/11/2019 19:50

I've had anxiety for years probably...but since my son had a severe brain accident...my anxiety has hit the roof and I'm petrified of taking medication....
I thought about Kalms ..but again I'm worried.....I'm so fed up of feeling like this .. need to bee strong but calm for my children
Anxiety is very high today
Any advice much appreciated x
