Summer and scars

I haven't self harmed for around 4 years now but I have scars on my wrists still.
We moved a few months ago and I'm in a new job. I've usually been pretty open about my MH and didn't really worry about people seeing my scars. However being around new people who don't know my history has left me feeling self conscious. I also work with vulnerable teenagers and I don't want to have to answer uncomfortable questions.

However now the weather is warming up, I'm feeling a bit uncomfortable in my trusty cardigans. I'm also quite overweight (thanks antipsychotics!) so that doesn't help!

Any tips on how to keep my arms covered and still keep cool?

Maybe this would be more suited to style and beauty....? Wink

I wear long sleeve cardigans or bracelets if it had 3/4 length sleeves. I tend to say that I got sun burnt badly a few years ago and like to stay covered.

I wear cardigans and thin long sleeve summer shirts. It's difficult to find the laters but I have managed to find those.
My left arm looks awful. It's full of scars so I can't wear t shirts.

I have a lot of surgical scars on one arm (which is also very sun sensitive due to nerve damage), and use Wingz to add to short/no sleeve things to cover them up fully when I don't want to discuss them.
They don't make you hot, and even the lace sleeves cover up big scars really well

Thanks everyone!
Those wingz look really useful!

H&M for lightweight long sleeve shirts. I have lots! I wore short sleeves last summer, but I've got new scars again this year, so I need to stock up on shirts

This is why I cut my stomach, which is a bit sorry looking atm, but then am a bit nervy about baring all in a bikini.....I don't want to just buy a one piece cos I'm not ashamed of anything, but otoh I don't want to make people awkward when people are feeling free and summery!

But then perceptions won't change if people don't do uncomfortable things or aren't forced to face up to uncomfortable facts....

Sorry OP I know you were after practical suggestions :) but I just wanted to say that I wouldn't feel any negative judgement towards you if I saw scars on your arms.

MANGO do good chiffon shirts…I wear a vest underneath and the shirts are so thin that I have got sunburnt through them!!! I don't get all hot and sweaty, and can wear them with shorts. They are fab, but generally you have to order online as they don't have the same selection instore. I'll be ordering more this year based on last years success Smile

My scars are old, but I have school age kids, and I don't want them to be asked questions by their mates.

MANGO do plus sizes too

A good bunch of bracelets or a watch always does the job for me, hun. Flowers
