Citalopram and itching?

Hi I have been taking Citalopram for the last lay 6 weeks or so and and starting itching in the past week or so. My whole body is itching, which I can't help scratching and making it worse. I am going to go to the docs on Monday morning and have stopped taking the meds since reading the leaflet. Has anyone else had this. Did the doc switch your meds

Unless itching indicates a life threatening condition you should really continue on them until you consult a doctor. After 6 weeks you can really do yourself some harm by just stopping like that.

Oh I didn't realise. I only missed this morning I'll go take it now Smile

I agree with Kath, do keep taking them or you may get some bad withdrawal symptoms.

If you're really worried about the itching maybe phone 111 for reassurance, but I think it's quite a common side effect.

It could be because it's been sunny the last week really - and the cita is reacting to the sunshine. It is horrible if you come straight off though - hopefully the doc will change you to something else.

I had this, I ended up scratching so much I bruised my skin. I stopped taking them and went to see the dr the following week who prescribed something else. He said it was a fairly rare side effect but a known one.

I was on them for a while before I got put on my mood stabilisers. If you feel itchy, have a rash or hives you must stop taking them immediately as its a sign of allergic reaction. I was on them for 18 months and felt no effect and they then put me on mirtazapine. Hope that helps xx

Yes! I'm so glad you posted this. I have been on Citolopram for a few weeks and my hands and feet itch like crazy. I have damaged the skin on my feet from all the scratching :( I will mention in to my GP at my next appointment.
