I'm on Citalopram for anxiety which isn't getting any better. I think my doctors at a loss what to do. Yesterday she increased my citalopram to 40mg a day.

is anyone else on as much as that - or more

Hi. I take 40mg and although I no longer have big panic attack like I used to, I still have a lot of anxiety. Since taking them I have also started to have obsessive thoughts about the most trivial things. So, basically something's have got better but some things have got worse since I started the tablets. 40mg is the maximum dose my GP will prescribe. I am waiting for an appointment to see psychologist who my GP thinks will help me a lot.

ask your dr to change you to escitalopram - itsmore expensive but far more effective. ive recently changed - i eish i changed years ago

I've been told to wait 3 months before going back to docs. This increase is like starting over. I feel so sick and I'm sleeping ridiculous amounts

that is outrageous! you are exactly right going up in dose is often worse than starting. 40mg is quite a high dose. I am on 20mg (maximum and equivalent to 40mg citalopram) escitalopram. It is the same drug but purer (the chemistry is complex but i was a biochemist ) and has fewer side effects. It is more expensive than citalopram which is why they dont tend to use it. I am so much better on this. i was like a zombie on 40mg citalopram and needed diazepam when i first started.
