Citralopram q

Been prescribed this for anxiety and depression. Only a few days in so I'm not sure how I'm really getting on with it as yet but this morning I had to make a phone call and I got a bit panicky about it (I had one of my first panic attacks at the place I was phoning, but kept it under control) and was really trembling and tbh I'm still trembling about 1.5 hours later. I'm not in a state or anything but wondered if this trembling is a feature of citralopram? DP thought I was trembling when he was holding my hand last night.

Will i always feel slightly 'doped' on these meds? I know I need to give it time but I don't feel any great desire to get back out there yet and if I have physical symptoms like trembling throughout the duration then maybe they aren't for me.

It can take a while for the meds to take hold iyswim. Don't think that trembling is a side effect. Give it a week to see if it settles down, if you are really concerened have a word with the local pharmacist they will be able to tell you if this is normal and how long you can expect it to go on for. I allways ask a pharmacist as they have more knowledge about the drugs than the GP's.

I felt spaced out for about a week and a half and didn't really feel better during that time either.

I guess I've been taking Citalopram for a few months now and to be honest, I'm getting on fine. Infact my GP wants me to come off it in January but I don't really want to.

I think it takes a while to settle down. Posting on here really helped me and there's a few of us around on Citalopram or with experience of it.

citralopram is awful in my opinion. i had awful side effects with it and felt spaced out all the time. i felt more depressed on it.

apparantley all AD's takes a few weeks to kick in. my experience of Citralopram has put me off going back for a different AD.

im going to try CBT even if i have to pay for it myself. i suffere panic attacks and anxiety.

I was on Escitalopram (a sister drug - Cipralex rather than Cipramil). After a couple of weeks, the side effects had worn off. Keep up with the ADs because those ones really do help with anxiety. If you are worried, see your gp and you could try another one. Panic attacks are horrible - poor you

I was very shaky and sweaty when I first took citalopram. Most effects are transient but you can always change to something else if it doesnt settle down.

Myermay, also started on Tuesday but 20mg. I had been taking propranalol to control panic attacks but although they controlled the physical symptoms, I still couldn't make it out of the door. My main problem is anxiety its just that I've worried so much about being anxious that I can't focus on anything else and its this that gives me the depression symptoms. I kind of wonder why I'm taking ADs at all - i haven't got my head around how they can work for anxiety and depression.

flim flam - i dont think anti depressants are the answer for ppl suffering from anxiety or panic disorder. it annoys me GP's prescribe ad's for these disorders.

I too suffer with anxiety and feel so anxious at times i dont want to leave the house. i am really anxious in social situations. i cant understand why because i used to be quite a sociable person. in fact, my friends used to call me the party animal whenever we were out. i now dont see my mates very often. i get bouts of depression too.

i am going to make an appt with my GP next week for a referral for CBT and if he says no or says the waiting list is too long then i will have to find one near me and pay privately. some of the girls on here it cost between £40-£80 depending where u live. thats per session.

go to your GP and ask him for a referral. AD's might not be the answer for u.

Alexz - Cipralex may be an anti-depressant but it also deals with anxiety. My current AD (Cymbalta) is designed for depression and incontinence (not that I need it for that!)

I am on citalopram for anxiety and depression, They will take two to four weeks to kick in properly and during this time you can have some side effects which can include the slight trembling your talking about. If I were you I would stick with it, they ahve helped me greatly. Having said that all antidepressants are different and if you don't feel they are helping after a month then go back and ask to change them. Your p should be happy to do this as some people just do not get on with some of them and they are others you can try

that should say "your gp should be happy...."

Cipralex really helped me with my anxiety. I used to worry about leaving the house in case of bad things happeneing to me and/or ds. The pills enabled me to go out and not worry. They also helped with my depression for a long time, but then became ineffective.

I think that anxiety and panic has to come out of somewhere. I don't think it just surfaces for no reason. I've figured out where mine came from and because it seems insurmountable it causes me to be depressed. My hope with the ADs is that it will help me just to see the happy side of things, calm down and chill out long enough to feel confident enough to make the changes necessary for me to feel whole again (if this makes any sense!).

I didn't discuss any counselling with my GP but I may look into CBT. It sounds promising.
