My son takes both these. Escitalopram in morning and amitryptaline in evening. Prescribed by a psychiatrist, not the GP.

Hi Lazymum99, I was prescribed Escitalopram and Amitriptyline by a Psychiatrist as well. My GP has said I am to stop taking the combination after I have been on them for 4 years. They are concerned about the possibility of QT heart disturbance (both drugs can cause this) and are now not thought to be a good combination, though I am very disappointed as they have been a great combination for me. You might want to look into this.

The GP was not keen on the combination but followed the psychiatrists orders. The computer came up with all sorts of warnings.
He also takes quetiapine. He has been on this combination since last summer and has remained stable on it.
I think the psychiatrists are more knowledgable about these drugs and will know the risk of the combination

HI Lazymum99, My GP has heard back from the Psychiatrist now and I have seen a copy of the letter he sent. He says he sees not reason for any problem with a combination of Amitriptyline and Escitalopram. I guess he knows a lot more about these drugs than the average GP. I just thought I would put you mind at rest after perhaps worrying you about your Son taking these drugs together. Take care
