Inappropriate psychiatrist?

I've seen a new psychiatrist a couple of times. The first time wasn't too bad. The second time was just a bit weird. I got the distinct impression he was attracted to me/found me attractive and it showed really badly. I've seen male psychiatrists before and never got this feeling with them at all.
It's left me feeling very confused and concerned about my next visit. Part of me thinks it's all fine and nothing to worry about, but another part is starting to think it was a bit inappropriate especially from a psychiatrist, or am I totally over thinking this?

Can't you just ask to see someone else? I don't think you need to give a reason.

I was transferred to a different one, but my current one blocked the transfer.

I guess in a way I just want to know whether I'm over reacting or not.

I generally have no problems with male doctors. I see them as there to do a job and that's it.
I do want to make it clear that he was not sexually inappropriate or suggestive or anything like that. He got very nervous at points and was kind of giggling nervously. And you know when someone smiles at you and their whole face lights up? It was just so weird and I've never had any doctor act that way before.

Yes this is an nhs psych.

It's really hard for anyone else to say if you are overreacting or not.
I am surprised to hear that they could actually block your request to transfer. Can you try putting it in writing? Write a letter to the department, and a copy to your GP?

I didn't actually request the transfer. I was sent a letter saying I was being transferred to a different doctor in a different department, but my current psych got it undone somehow.

I guess it is hard to say majestic, it's a 'you had to be there' kind of thing.

If you want to change consultant then you must put your request in writing to the Trust's Clinical Director. You must state your reasons for wanting to move. Breakdown in therapeutic relationship is what I would put to be honest.

What you have described is that he was nervous, giggling, smiling. So not really, it's not evidence of anything inappropriate, he might just have a really awkward social manner. But I think that if you are uncomfortable, then that is reason enough. As nightsky said, a breakdown in the therapeutic relationship is a good way of putting it.

I must point out that requesting a change of Consultant may take a some time... even months. The process is that your request is received, the Clinical Director looks at, he/she writes to your consultant to find out his/her's take on the situation. If he/she thinks you have a valid reason to move, then the Clinical Director has to actually find you another Consultant who is willing to take you on his/her waiting list. This could take months.

Seeing as another poster (sorry, can't remember who it was) said he might just be nervous in general I think I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, go to my next appointment and see what happens. If it's still weird and I feel uncomfortable again then I'll consider transferring.
