How long to start feeling better?

I've had a bout of depression since September. October and November were awful, but now I feel less numb. However, I still have to make such an effort to chat and smile to others or to go out of the house ( or even bed). It's very hard.

What are you doing to get better?
If you are on medication most have a pretty immediate effect on me although that may just be the relief in having something.
Setting small goals can help. Then, when you complete something, even if it is tackling filing or cleaning a room it is an achievement which you can feel better about.
I must admit I have never been able not to get up, my children don't give me a choice, or maybe I dont give myself a choice to really delve into what I am feeling. If I did I might not be able to hide it so well.
Sorry, I'm not much help.
