and my mental health would be much better if I hadn't had kids.
I adore my children and I am sorry for my friends who want but cannot have them, but jesus, it is so fucking hard.
Older one has aspergers and is hard going. Younger one is pre-schooler and is just standard issue hard going.
I have help and support but it is drudgery.

I can understand what you mean. I love my grown up son dearly, he's in his early 40's. I only had one child because my own childhood was so difficult I developed an aversion to having more than one child.

Parenthood is idealised in the media and not much thought is given to people's experiences outside of that limited range.

I feel for you and admire your honesty. We women are supposed to be able to cope with any given situation and maintain a healthy glowing smile just as if parenting has no effort attached to it and society isn't interested when we mention the mental health implications that are all too common for so many.

Good luck.

Thank you jane, that was a lovely post.
Yeah I adore my kids, but the cost of parenthood is very high.

Parenthood isn't all it's cracked up to be, is it? Look at the thread on here about regretting being a parent, a lot of people can relate to how you are feeling.
