Some of you may ( or may not) remember me ( name changer sadly)
i have been on 50 mg of sertraline ( zoloft) for a couple of months now and my weight is going up
Its an ssri and i thought this was not meant to happen. I am excercising and dieting - salads every night for a fortnight now and still my weight creeps up.
I have NEVER had a problem with weight - particularly not when actually being careful about what i eat.
I cannot face putting on any more and will think about changing to a different one if this is the case.
Any experience of this?
Thanks

Hi havingatoughtime

I took setralazine several years ago when it was under the brand name Lustral. I took it for about two years and my weight did creep up but I think that was more to do with comfort eating than the actual drug. If you're worried about putting on weight ask your gp to try you on another ssri that doesn't list that as a major side effect.

Hope things get better for you chuck!

Sertraline made me put on 2 stone, I just couldn't stop eating all the time. All the sri's make you put on weight, although when they were first discovered it was thought they didn't make you put on weight. I think seroxat is meant to be the worst. Iam on amitriptiline, which is meant to be notorious for weight gain, but I haven't put any on. I think you have to find one that is right for you.

Mine (Cymbalta) is supposed to be really bad for weight gain, but I have been eating too much to attribute my few extra pounds as anything other than food! I found a forum where people were moaning about their gains, despite eating really healthily (or so they said!) If this is a side-effect too far, I'm sure you could swap to another SSRI really easily. There must be one that would suit you better.

Hi, just read this thread with horror. I am a size 18 and have just been put on Seroxat following a doagnosis of pcos. How much weight is it normal to gain???? I was managing to shift about 1lb a week before being put on them. Is this going to stop. Oh NO!!!!

DastardlyDevilishDior · 19/10/2006 20:58

I think a lot of the drugs make you gain because they increase your appetite.

Sertraline made me lose my appetite and i lost weight but venlafaxine made me gain weight.

Beauregard · 19/10/2006 21:01
