Citalopram and insomnia - will it get better?

Hello,
Been takng Citalopram 20mg for 2.5 weeks. First week was awful with terrible side effects. Towards the end of the 2nd week did start to feel better and was sleeping a bit better (with the aid of sleeping tablets prescribed by GP as that was one of my original symptoms). But for the past 5 days sleep has got progressively worse and am now feeling pretty desperate! Know that insomnia is listed as a side-effect of Citalopram .

Really hoping someone can tell me that it will get better as not sleeping makes everything seem insurmountable and have taken a huge step backwards.

Supposed to be going back to work on Monday (agreed to go back when was feeling better last week) and am now dreading it if I'm completely sleep deprived.

Sorry for moan - just would love some success stories.

Hi,

I'm on day 16 of taking 10mg of Citalopram. The first week I felt extremely tired and slept really well. The last 4 nights I have been going to bed and have just been wide awake!

It's taking me a long while to drop off and I seem to wake at 4am every morning!

I take mine in the morning (GP advised it), when do you take yours? I wonder if it makes a difference to insomnia?

Sorry to say it but I battled 4am panic wakings for 8 weeks before eventually losing the plot and ending up taking another med to remove that side effect.
For some people it passes, for me it didn't.

When do you take it? I found evenings were a disaster so changed to first thing in the morning and slept much better.

It did take a while, but I reckon within about four weeks I was sleeping ok and my mood had really improved.

Hello, yes changed to the morning but am having to rely on sleeping tabs at the mo which I hate but GP advised. SO hoping it gets better.

Anxiety, depression and loss I'd appetite have also just returned after a week when everything seemed to be getting so much better which is hard to cope with.

Committed to going back to work soon too but maybe that will help?

Violator what tabs helped with the insomnia?

The first week I was on it I did nothing during the day, and I think part of the reason I didn't sleep was that I wasn't tired.

I switched to taking it in the morning and making myself get up - if I let myself stay in bed in the morning or went back during the day I hadn't a hope of sleeping at night - and I used to stay up a bit later reading so I was more tired.

At first i was going to bed at 2 or 3 and forcing myself up at 8 (which was hell), but then I found myself getting tireder and going earlier and actually sleeping
