Would I be going back to work too soon?

I have been signed off work for the last month with depression. It had been 5 years since my last episode and it came over me very quickly and I ended up breaking down at work and being sent home.

I have been given AD's and after a couple of weeks began to feel better. I am now 4 weeks in and only really began to feel like myself again at the end of last week. I am finally able to face people again and Can feel my get up and go coming back.

However, I am scared that if I go back to work next week (due to see GP later this week) that it will be too soon and may set me back. What should I do?

If you've only just started to feel right, then I'd give it a bit more time. The worst thing would be to get back into work only to have to take time off again soon.

If you need more time then take it. It's better to be feeling yourself. If you do want to try going back though The fit notes can give you a phased return.

I don't hunk I'm quite ready to return just yet so will ask for more time.

It's been an awful few weeks, I could barely leave the couch let alone the house for the first fortnight. Only now can I really gave people and going out without wanting to run home.

It scared me how quickly I went from "not depressed" to "on my knees with depression".

I wish I could take some time off. I think you are being really gentle with yourself and that's the best way to get well and stay better.

Sorry for all the errors in my last post, my phone has a mind of its own.

I guess I should be grateful I work in a cottage hospital and my boss has been more than understanding. The hospital staff have also been keeping in touch and making sure I am okay :).

I think you should wait until you're really ready.x
