Anxiety and dating

Would really appreciate any experiences or advice.

I have seen this guy in a group twice recently (a small group of very close friends which I am fine with) which has been good fun, but he invited me for a drink this evening. It's the one-on-one stuff that freaks me out. I don't have anything to say, I freeze up and just thinking about it now my heart is absolutely hammering, I am trembling, sweaty and doing a kind of stupid tapping thing I do when I am anxious. Would probably be tempted to self harm if I was at home.

Does anybody else experience this and how have you overcome it? I'm probably going to cancel the date (I have cancelled about 2 in the past few months) because I'm so terrified.

If its any consolation, he's probably feeling anxious too.

Its better to push yourself and do things, else the anxiety is reinforced by avoidance.

You can talk about anything..the weather..what's on TV..hobbies..favourite animal. Whatever comes to mind. Ask him questions about himself.

Hope it goes well.
